No, those big scoops never exist and they kill the nice Scarab design imho.

Ahh yes I understand. The scale purist. I may go there someday and certainly appreciate true scale models but I’m more a resto-mod kinda guy. I’m building a scale model of “my” Scarab I will never own. So of course it has blown 3500HP motors and steerable Arneson surface drives.
Scoops are bonded on. They still need some minor filler work before primer later today, then hopefully a quick sand in the morning and off to the body shop.
After weighing this I thought it might be a bit light and weak, so I sanded my hull sides that were a little ugly anyway from manipulating the CF to fit the steps at the chine and laid some more CF.
Decals are waiting patiently on the Sniper!
Just picked up from paint! Shouldn’t be long now. Decals this weekend then final assembly - couple more weeks!!
Decals are on.
Rigging is coming along. On schedule for the maiden Sat. At HOTMBC.

Nice Alfa who makes that hull?
I made this Scarab 4 years ago.
My signature stands are all foam. My latest is made from a foam cooler ran out of the nice foam.
Nice !!! Where arre the building pics ???
Wich setup did you choose ?
Any vids to show us ?
This is a beauty.
it must not be easy to properly motorize an Expresscraft Scarab hull with FE setup !

Yes love more info on it. Hull is slightly different. What is the length?
Maiden tomorrow!
She ripped herself apart. My fault trusting Loctite should have used epoxy. Will rebond the drive assemblies.

OK it's been 3 weeks without a club meet but the repair was simple. First successful maiden video for your entertainment below. Apparently outward-rotating props are not the ticket. I default to outward always because it makes more sense in my head, but the result seemed to be the opposite of what I expected?? When one prop cavitated with turn input the hull literally torque rolled almost out of the water! Funny to watch enjoy!
The second run was much better after some trim changes and inward-rotating props. It did 67 on GPS but was getting hairy. The myth that some hulls simply will not perform beyond a certain level may in fact be true, but I'm stubborn enough to have to learn most things the hard way. Unfortunately I did not get video of the second run. Next time!

Ha, nice save on the front straight. That thing looked like a handful with the outward spinning props.

very nice looking boat! and yeah, looks to be a bit sketchy yet....LOL
Much better attitude now with drives up and more rear CG. Maybe need to go back a little? More power than driver guts too. But a nasty hook despite careful turns. Any tips?

getting closer. i cant remember, are you running any turn fins? if not, i would start there...
I am. Will lower them. I know this rear blowout is a characteristic of stepped hulls. I was also told that props outward is most common with twin vees? Will try that again too.
No I really wanted to try steerable but did not. I’m focusing on my 1.2M cat at the moment will message you.
Nice works Mike!
