Can someone clarify if it makes a difference what side the rudder goes on VS the turn fin and why? Like if the turn fin is on the right side does the rudder go on the right of the strut?

Rudder goes to the right of the prop if you're going to be running clockwise circles, i.e. Right hand turns. Turn fins are most often installed in pairs, but I suppose only one side would be necessary if you were going to turn in just one direction for racing.
It's for a 1/8 hydro
It doesn’t really matter on a hydro, but since they’re right turn, I put the rudder to the right of the strut because the rudder will always be turned away from the prop and I don’t need to worry about clearance. If you mount to the left, rudder will turn towards the prop and you may find larger props won’t have clearance when the rudder is turned. Make sense?
Very clear thanks

Here is a bit of info that explains most of the effects of rudder & turn fin placement & adjustment. It's what I used when I first started setting up Hydros all those years ago. And still do.

Here's an old thread on the topic too which will shed some more light on the topic.
