Thanks hey for the feedback. Great insight on the dyhedral feature of Mike's design. I will take that bushing out and clean off the loctite...

I have all my colors layed down. As far as what I'm painting and what stays natural.

Next is canopy, turquoise pinstripes and lettering. The lettering will be done in turquoise and white.

With this two part Klass Kote epoxy paint, it can be re-coated in 24 hours. But it takes 4 days to a week to fully cure.

I've taped it for the next color in 24 hours without a problem.

I'll probably let all this sit for awhile. Then I can handle it without concern for the rest of the painting.

I want to thank you for this highly detailed build. My 310 is built but not rigged and finished.

Paul helped me with my build, specially the sponsons. Hopefully they are paralel and straight. I will have to check them when back at apartment. I think mine are o.k. thanks to Paul.

The KlassKote info was so welcomed since I have some stored away that I bought in 2014, hopefully it's still usable, you think? Since I don't have a compressor to spray, your brush technique is very welcomed!!! I will give it a try. If it works I can get some orange for my rig. I just have white now.

Thank you so much. I will be reading it over a few more times.

Your welcome. It's good to share experience and ideas, we all benefit when that happens. I learn so much this way too. Paul has also been a great help to me...

I have a little bit of white K & B Super Poxy paint that I used for many years(wasn't enough left for this project and I had no other colors). So I bet your 2014 Klass Kote is still good. Test a small mix to see if it hardens.

Here's a tip on brushing the Klass Kote. It says to let it activate in the cup for 30 minutes before using. I found it would not flow as well towards the end because brushing takes longer. I've been getting great results waiting 20 minutes, then I start using it. It flows better and hardens the same.

I'm using these 1" wide & 1/2" wide bristle brushes from my hardware store. They are around a dollar each. They work great, then I toss them...

I said in post #273 I would let the paint cure before handling it to finish up.

But with careful handling(the epoxy paint will get marked with fingerprints unless you wait 24 hours), I did get the turquoise pinstripe on the tub.

Then I realized I had lettering to do on the sponsons, which are cured already...

And it gets even more tedious. The smaller white "Boatworks" lettering will be done with white paint.

I got the tape cut out for one side.

    One more to go...

There's a nice quality look to painted stripes and lettering. Something you don't get with stickers.

Here's some pictures that tell the story about how I did it.

I cut this stack out with a #11 exacto knife...

The transfer paper goes sticky side to sticky side of the low stick blue tape. I cut thru my computer printed letters and the blue tape and transfer paper.

The stack is taped to a sheet of paper folded in half. Makes for a nice clean cut...

I have used the Pre-val with the K&B epoxy paints, back in the 80's, worked real well.
We used them at work also, to touch up aircraft parts, after repair.

Thanks for this feedback. Great to hear from someone who's used this. Looked too good to be true, especially for the price. Simpler than setting up and cleaning my air brush too. I for one plan on trying this at some point...

Here are some tips for using Klass Kote on the fiberglass canopy and back hatch cover.

Since it's epoxy paint, I did not use primer.

I lightly sanded a cross hatch pattern to skuff the gel coat. Then wiped it with the Klass Kote reducer.

Here's how the fiberglass back hatch cover turned out...

The fiberglass is a little bit more of a struggle to paint with a brush than wood.

What I've been doing is brush on a coat and let it flash off. Doesn't take long at all to flash off. Wait maybe five minutes.

On this first coat I'm not laying it down heavy, or worrying about bare streaks or brush marks.

Then lay down the second coat. Now it flows and covers nicer.

On wood I was brushing one full coat, keep it flowing and keep moving. It seems to cover better and doesn't leave bare streaks...

Here are close up(6"away) and stand off(2'away) shots of my brushed finish. Not perfect, but certainly good enough.

It does flatten some more after first brushing it on until it sets. This is cured over night so it's the final finish.

The gloss and overall appearance is beautiful...
