Here's me fussing with a minor detail. This canopy has a slight twist up, on the front right, and the springs on these latches won't take all the twist out...

I've made springs for one of my RC Crawlers and had spring wire left over.

Here's how to disassemble these latches...

I found a screw with the right pitch and diameter. Then chucked it in a drill and wrapped a spring around it...

The pencil is pointing to the original .015 wire diameter spring. Below it is the new spring made from .020 wire diameter...

Well, it's still winter in my neck of the woods and I've been busy. I put together a rescue boat.

    And tested it!

You'll have to watch this video to find out how that happened up here in the north country in January...

Here's a idea that could be used on all RC boats. Riggers, cats, v-hulls and definitely scale boats of some of those types.

Check it out, the video explains it all...

I built a second boat stand. Sometimes you don't get it right the first time. It's ok, that's part of designing something, it's why you have Revision A... and Rev B... and Rev C...

Seriously tho, this should work well, it's also why it's good to practice plagiarism, and why copying something is the greatest form of flattery. The design guys are so good at what they do. And under appreciated.

Here's a link to a video on my second stand...

Detailing the windshield. It's made from airplane heat shrink covering.

I used black pinstripes around the edge and a charcoal gray pinstripe for the center bar. The rivets are done with white paint.

I pierced the black pinstripes with a #11 exacto knife, twisted the knife and then applied the paint with the knife.

I first sprayed the paint onto wax paper, then dipped the knife in it and poked it in the hole until a dot of paint transferred...

    pla·gia·rism

    noun

the practice of taking someone else's work or ideas and passing them off as one's own

    "there were accusations of plagiarism"

In post #338 I used a word that doesn't represent what I meant to say. I did not know the full meaning and should have looked it up beforehand. "Emulate" would be a better choice of words.

    em·u·late

    verb

match or surpass (a person or achievement), typically by imitation.

"lesser men trying to emulate his greatness"

To a large extent that's one of the main purposes of a forum. Sharing information so we can all have greater success in a shorter amount of time.

    That is rewarding both ways...

It's been a very rewarding thread, thank you.

It you built the 310 like I did would you use sponson safety tethers? What gauge wire would you use if so?

Well, thank you. It's been a great experience and I learned a whole lot from you guys and from taking on this project.

I guess it depends on what you're doing with your rigger. For a spec boat running laps, maybe they don't want the weight. They do hit buoys and break the booms tho.

What's it worth to you? I don't like the thought of flipping it on a SAW run and losing the tub.

If you use them, I think the 1/16" galvanized cable I used would be fine for the RSX380.

    Beautiful work.
A boat to be proud of.
So glad we don't have a winter down here in sunny Queensland.

It is a fine job to say the least.

I'm just curious about the outobailer, does it actually keep ALL water out at rest?

Would it work on my 310? Not that it takes on water, (still not painted or rigged but in the process) but riggers don't have much buoyancy or flotation.

I have not floated it yet. But, when you blow thru it? Instant seal. So I would say yes, just setting the boat in the water, the pressure will seal it.

And my other thought went like this. I'll try it, if it don't work I'll put a removable plug in its place. Like on my UL19, it has a flange with a plug in it, about the same size hole thru the hull...

Thanks Mike. That would be fine by me if you put this on your website. Here's a couple of finished pictures, has the windshield details done. I think you can save these off the thread. Or I could email them to you, let me know. I don't have any pics of it in the water yet...

It floats, it planes and it turns!

It's still too early for the boating season to begin here, check out how I got a run in with ice still on the lake...

    Well done.
First runs are always a bit nervous. I remember that shaking feeling well.
