i have a Phil Thomas super sport 45 it s has never been run,i want to run it on 6s , the motor i have for it is a neu 1527 1y , 1250kv , the guys in my club run leopard 4082 1600kv motors on 6s for q hydro class , my question is , will i be able to keep up with them , will my boat be fast enough , if not, what motor would you guys recommend and with what prop .

I don't race but mine goes pretty well on that setup using 6 sup swinging a 52mm prop.

with your lower kv motor you can swing a larger prop so speeds will be equal to the guys that run higher kv motors with smaller props.

You will have the power, but it is a big ask for a sport hydro to keep with riggers in the hydro class.

That hull w a 1527/1Y w a 457 2 blade (tongue reduction, and pitched to 4.5") will haul the mail. Thats the setup I used in my .40 whip (that weighs twice as much) to run a record 6 lap run.

I ran mine w only 6000mah because of space restriction in my hull, but I would recommend at least 8000mah

I am setting up a new 6s sport hydro with T.P. 4060-1240 kv motor, both the prather 240 x 2 or the octura 455 seem to work well . I think the larger 457 moded prop might be too much for us running a single 6s pack [ not 6s2p ] sounds good though madmikepags.

I have ran up to a 452 prop on my PT 45 with 6s2p 8800mah and I would say for my setup that is about as hot as I would want to run it and still have good runtime. I am using a Neu 1527 1Y 1250kv motor in mine.

a club mate is running a prather 240 which has more pitch and diameter than the 455 octura and his set up with a 1250 motor and single 6s pack runs cool for 6 race laps. its definetly the go to start off small and work your way up in sizes.

I too, ran a Prather s240 on 6s with that motor. A 447/3 also works well.
Again, as rol243 stated, these are on 1P setups only for racing here in Australia.

    That is a tried and true set up. 1527, 452, (2) 5000mah 6S's. I ran the castle 240.

Hey madmikepags, what esc or amp range would you recommend for the above setup? How long a runtime with 6000 mah? With the 457 2 blade? Thanks

at least a 200 amp speedo, my runtime is a race time between a minute 10 and a minute 30. This is a RACE setup not a sport running setup.

Looking forward to this one, I've never thought of running a lower KV like this for Q

It does work. lower kv equals more prop and pitch as opposed to higher kv,s that require smaller props .

    never said it didn't
lower KV takes a bigger wheel

I'm setting my P Hydro up with a much lover kv than I thought I would ever race with running a very big prop with help from Darin
as opposed to my picture (upper left)running high KV that got me 1st

I’ve been running mine with 1527 1y (1250kv) with a x452. Temps are around 110 after a mill. I was using single 6s 5000mah 60/120c. Started ever so slightly puffing cells. Went to graphene 6000mah and I’m good. Trying x455 this weekend. With the 5000 mah I was right at 65 mph. Dropped the strut a little and put 6000 mah in and was just over 70mph 3-6” of chop, it was hard to hold on to. 5328 watts on that run. Gonna try x455 and x648 this weekend. Maybe parallel 2 5000mah and see if it picks up more from less voltage drop.

I’ll start with 648 then 652. Not trying to cook it

I am also setting up a new 6s sport hydro with a 1250 kv motor, props to test will go from x450 / x452 / x455. a club mate has the same set up and he runs a prather 245, all is cool after a race .

Ya, that’s what I did. Started with x448. It ran hotter than 450. Think over revving maybe sending voltage back to speed control. I’ve read that Prather 245 is good but I have 0 experience with them so, I stay with octura. The x452 works good and isn’t cooking stuff. Sharpened and balanced is all I did to it.
