Thread: My TFL Pursuit coming up to speed.

  1. #1

Default My TFL Pursuit coming up to speed.

Maiden Run on 6s using a $37.00 Hobby King motor, Turnigy ESC, and a Octura Prop (cause it hasn't learned it's abc's yet) from Chris (Dasboata). This is a FUN boat and I see nothing but good things to come in the future with it.

  2. #2

Default TFL Prusuit hits 67.1mph on the second run.

The second run I got 67.1mph after a few tweaks still running the same setup as above.

The motor is an old Turnigy 3674 2000 I had in my parts bin and a Octura prop that has been massaged on by Chris it wasn't an ABC prop.

Wow. 2000kv on 6 cells. I would think you would smoke either the motor or ESC. I realize that you are only doing sprints, so that might be the key to success.

Yea, no heat racing with this setup...Just plain ole having fun boatin LOL! I've been beating up a lot of the Dynamite 3831's over the past year or so and I haven't burned up one yet on 6s, but I do make sure cool down laps are frequent and the props aren't too large. That's what I was going to put in this boat but the Turnigy had a showed out in a few boats in the past so I decided to try it in this one. A 3831 might go in eventually just to see what it can do.

    My bad Martin, you're correct I just looked. My 40mm is a 2000kv and the 36mm is a 2200kv.
Have you also run the 40mm 2000kv motor in anything at all (4074 I presume ), as I was interested in how the Turnigy 4074 - 2000kv motors ran as well.

No, I was going to put it in the Pursuit but the 40mm water jacket I had extra leaked when I installed it. Got to get another one then might try it in something.

Thanks Jim. I’ve seen that but 279 seems high for a pursuit hull and hardware.
Probably going to end up buying one there but used to buy them for 200 delivered.
Guess the game passed me by while I’ve been gone.

Yeah. Seems like HK is getting away from boats or something they don't have many boats like before

I noticed that. Hadn’t looked there in some time. They don’t have much.

Default TFL Pursui hits 70.4mph with Octura prop bt dasboata

With this run I officially put anther one of my boats into the 70mph club (with an Octura prop). Once again I have to tip my hat to my "Prop smith" Chris Hoffmann (dasboata) for all of the Awesome props. Not too bad for a $45.00 motor from Hobby King. I really need a good rain to wash the trash out of the lake because I hit a piece of a limb on my first pass and almost made the rudder breakaway from the mount. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8bHW2gbL2VI

I was lucky enough to find the buyer of my old pursuit that I built about 6 years ago.
Boat need some work but still has all my custom setup inside. Needs a little body work but that’s no problem.
I was able to get it to 61mph on 4s2p back then running a castle 1515 2200kv swinging a m645 prop. Still have one of those motors so I think I’ll start there.
Here’s it running back then. Think this was about 50-55 mph run on small pond.

Btw Mad, that thing is running great. Can’t believe that hk motor is holding up. They must be a lot better than they used to be.
I can remember blowing those things up on first runs back about 6 years ago.
Once I get mine back in the water I may try a 5s run to see what it can do. The math says 68mph or so.

Nice! I have a couple of the Dynamite versions of that motor in my tool box. I was thinking of putting one in the Pursuit if it they don't make it into a future project.

Very cool, I didn't know Dynamite has a version of the 1515. Good to know as Castle is only making a sensored version of it now. Its always been one of my favorite 4s batts. Its a torque monster.

The DYNS1630 (2200 kv) are the ones I have. They are rebranded 1515's with a "smooth skin" made by Castle for Dynamite. I pulled them out of a couple of Losi super trucks a couple of years ago for car speed runs that never got completed.

you don,t need to use the sensored plug on the castle motors if you don,t have a sensored esc. the Dynamite motors are too expensive for what they are.

I really liked the Pursuit and I really miss mine. I decided to do some hull reinforcement and put a new motor and esc on mine and went out to test it but I forgot to put any floatation inside. I flipped it in the middle of the pond and I couldn't reach it with a fishing rod. I thought about swimming for it but this isn't the pond in my backyard and there were bigger alligators in there. So all I could do was watch it go down. The nose did stay up for a bit and if there would have been some wind it might have pushed it closer to shore but it was so calm that day. It finally sank.. .bye bye. Now, seeing yours brings memories and it's making me want to get another. lol. .maybe someone wants to get rid of one? Nice run on your Pursuit Mark. I'm pretty sure you can get more speed out of her as she seems to run smoothly and still controllable.

Mad, I was checking those out the other day but didn't know they were the Castle. Pretty pricey but if they are the same as the castles they last for a long time. I've seen a couple new old stock of the 1515 pretty cheap but with the ribs they are a pain for cooling. May try the Dynamite on next build or when this one gives up. Hell, Im not positive its still good until I get it fired up anyway.

Bp, that a bummer man. Ive lost a couple over the years but nothing of that great of importance. Get another one!

Do you guys know what size the hardware screws are in the v3 geico? Like the hold down tray and motor mounts. Not where I can look at my other one and want to pick some up. I believe they are 3mm x .5

    Pursuit: T-180, TP 4060/1620kv yes, it's fast...
Tsunami: Mono SAW project, lot of sexy parts sitting here...
Genesis: I have no idea what I'm doing...

Brian, I hate to hear about you loosing yours. That's a tough one to swallow I know. I've got a hunch I can eek another mph or two out of mine...Hopefully, I'll do my best trying anyways.

Thanks Dan! I normally like it at 30% for showing out with it...Lol! But 28% is a little more mph. Depending on the water conditions obviously though.
