Default HiModel 4s-8s 200 amp esc

Has anyone tried the HiModel 8s - 200 amp esc with 5 amp BEC?

I used the 3-7s version in both my Cat and on my electric converted Revo truck. Great esc!! It never got hot, and kept on pushing. I just learned that water doesn't mix well, I didn't conformal coat it.

Well I see now they offer it in both 3-7s and 4-8s. I'd like to give it a shot. Looks like I need to build a new boat.
My prop hasn't been wet in a while.

I have used several, in both versions and they work good.. I always conformal coat them and add watercooling..

Used the Himodel 3-7s and works great but just received the 4-8s a week ago but our ponds are frozen now so will have to wait till spring. I use Plasti Coat to water proof the esc's and then shrinkwrap it seams to work good and no fear if water hits it. The cooling plate Steve sells fits the fets perfect (bottom row pics), I use Arcitic Silver Alumina Thermal Adhesive on the fets to cooling plate, its an epoxy so it will hold solid. The esc's on the top of each pic are the 3-7s the bottom are the 4-8s, wires for the motor are on the bottom with the fets on the 4-8s.

Both esc'c are the exact same dimensions, just the cooling plate on the top of each pic is larger.

Kind of curious on how tough the new 8c controlers are.......

I've been running a couple of the 8s Bec versions for a few months now. They are only running on 4s with an Ammo 2300 & the SV 27 motor So the Amp draw isn't high either.
The one with the Ammo is fine. The one with the SV27 motor ( in a 32" cat with a 445 prop) was working great until the other week.
As I plugged the batteries in the spark seemed a little bigger than usual and the ESC would not arm. No noises or beeps whatsoever. The BEC was still working because I still had power to the receiver & rudder servo. I tried unplugging & plugging a few times but she no go. I changed the receiver but still no luck.
If anyone can advise on what the problem might be and if it's fixable it would be appreciated.
Although this is outside the realm of this thread I still have to ask... Is there a simple way to reduce that splash across the plugs as you connect the batteries to the ESC?
    Cheers.
    Paul.

    Thanks Pete.
    And so simple too.
So I assume from this that I may need to replace the capacitors on the ESC in question???

have been running these esc's for awhile with good results although havent tried 8s.have data logged a few boats running them and one boat was drawing 170 amps peak with about 130 constant and the speedie got warm but not overly for wat it was doing plus the esc wasnt water cooled (testing to see wat they could take) have been running one in my cat for awhile and havent had any problems, cat runs 7xl 4s also have had running blackjack motor on 6s with no problems
paul, i think some of the earlier models had a diffrent program chip wich somtimes stopps working they also changed the fets. will ask geoff if he has some left as he brought 10 not long ago cheers scott

For a USA site to sell these and make a decent profit and be competitive, they would probably need to sell them with no warranty. ha

Wonder why someone has not designed a bullet connector with an insulated ring on the end that has a 50 ohm resistor connecting the parts? It would stop the sparking when you connected the positive lead slowly with no dangling parts. Cheap answer to blowing expensive controllers on power up.???

Or better yet, design an add on part that slides inside the bullet connector?

Reddy, some ESCs have internal versions of the "spark arrest"... not sure if it works or not...

All of mine spark heavily when connected from the inrush. Especially the HV controllers. Anything to slow down the charge rate of the caps. I like the 50 ohm resister idea that is shorted out after the bullet is connected.

    Default Difference 7S OPTO / 8S BEC ?

I also paid a mister Wang Xuebin $185,49 last night for three ESCs
In their email they say they are the largest RC Electric supplier in China...

I bought them with BEC (even though I dont intend to use the BEC) cause they are specced to go up to 8S, and want to build a twin drive cat and might go up to 8S.
The other 200A OPTO model without BEC is only specced to go up to 7S.
I wonder why that is ???
Usually with BEC its specced lower to guarantee an output somewhere around 5V.

Any ideas why this is the other way around? Older model perhaps ?

They look like completely different controllers, this being the newer one. I have been hoping someone would test it on 8s with BEC.
