    Fitting the hatches:

    The front fiberglass hatch comes with pre etched lines on the long sides. I scribed over these with a pencil, as well as the front and rear cut points. The carbide wheel Dremmel tool made easy work of cutting the fiberglass. The front of the fiberglass hatch needs some retention tabs. I made the 3 you see from some plywood scraps. I ground the wood thinner with a sanding block to form a step. This now fits perfectly under the front deck.
    The rear hatch is just a piece of plywood. Minimal fitting was required.

    What a great build! thanks for posting everything in such detail, really good stuff! looking forward to the finished product. Man, You really blew through this.

    Steering and driveline:
    Installed a Hitec water proof servo on a TFL mount. I used a 440 rod with ball joint connector on the Speedmaster rudder.
    Set the strut for a flat 0 degree setting for a base line. Installed a 1/4" tube through a 5/32nd shaft log. I mount the motor first and cut a sloppy slotted hole. Then I use CA glue to hold the shaft log, tweaking the log until I get a nice alignment. Once in position, I used epoxy and fiberglass cloth to secure. Bee sure to scuff up your outer shaft log tubing so the adhesives stick! The shafttube was annealed and bent with the 3/16" flex shaft inside. After the bend was satisfactory, I re-tempered the brass with my torch and quenched.
    I also installed the hard line 3/16th tubing plumbing. Aluminum tube makes great durable light weight water lines! The thick transom and sides were drilled with a 3/16th bit. Just slide the tube through and secure with epoxy.

    I installed a Mojo racing Products 40 size stainless steel turn fin on a custom made bracket. The back end of the bracket will have a cross brace to the center section. More about this later. The very first GSX 338 will be racing at the IMPBA Spring Nationals next week!

    you don,t think the bend in the shaft log isn,t too tight ?

    Finishing it up:
    Installed front motor support and ran all the water lines. Found packaging the Castle ICE 240 across the front of bulkhead #4 worked pretty well. Laid the batteries in front of the ESC. CG is about 1.25" back from the sponson heels. Room to move batteries forward if need be. Installed RX and ran the wires. Put some reinforcements around the shaft log. Put a half ass spray bomb paint job over the primer. Temporary job until the lousy weather in Michigan breaks. The boat is about ready to test! Boat with all equipment installed weighs in at 8.5 lbs.

    you would knock off a pound by fitting an f.e. cowl as those gp cowls are too heavy so I found.

    They are not that heavy, trimmed down they don't even weight a pound! Weight is not as big of a deal as a lot of people think it is. Weight helps stabilize in rough water. Now P-Limited, yes, weight could be a factor, but with full P, there is far to much power to worry with cowling weight. If it is balanced, and moving, the air takes control of the boat, and proper trimming. I have seen the to much weight idea many times, and when you ask people who race week in and week out..they never have weighted their setups, because they know it is setup that creates speed!

    When you are running in the low 70's with a "P" Sport Hydro in race trim, Weight is your friend.

    The trimmed cowl weight is 7.5oz.
    This boat is of similar weight of the other P sports that run in our club in MI. My old P-Sport was 11 lbs and did 69 MPH on the 1/6th mile oval with a 545 2 blade prop.

    If build right, with sharp edges, YES.
    Also the glass hull makers can not keep up with the changes in hull design.

    You can also make your own changes to try something out, or incorporate a change that someone else has done that works.
