    Default H and M Dr. Evil Hydro 1

    Hello all,
    Its been a while.

    looking to pick peoples brains about riggers.
    I am building a H and M Dr. Evil.
    I was planing on a Neu 1415, 2700 Kv motor on 4S. (Not sure where to start on props)
    My question was about CG off a rigger, general setup, and strut heights / angle.
    1. Where should I design the CG of the boat to be? I remember there being design rules about the balance point being XX% of the distance between the ride pads and the prop, but I cant find that info.
    2. It makes sense to me that the strut should be completely flat when the boat is resting on a table (no turn fin). Would raising the strut have the effect of changing the Angle of Attack of the sponsors?

    Hi Larryrose

    Ive never ran this kind of rigger but I would choose for a lower kv motor for 4S....2400 would be more safe for a longer run turning a bigger prop as this is my 4S set up a TPpower motor(2400kv) turning a 1450 mod prop(46mm with 3,4 cup).My rigger use the 60;40% rule for CG so this can be applyed for your boats to start tests.Yes the strut can be positioned flat and raisiing or lowering it can affect the attitude of the boat depending on the prop...riggers prefer lifting props.
    I would recommend you follow these basics rules and see whats happen with your your riggers..btw think to get the new Tppower motors as they have plenty of power at a lower cost with good quality....not sure if the new Neu motors are good nowadays.

    The boat dimensions:
    Length: 650 mm - 25.59 inch tub
    Length (overall): * 720 mm , 28.34 inch overall

    I have a goal of going over 60 MPH, 101 Kph. Is that doable with this hull?
    Ig so, what TP moroe would you suggest?

    Yes Larryrose it is doable to reach this speed.My motor is a custom Tppower 3630 (36X 61mm) with 2390kv... you can ask for this kv directly to TPpower USA and motor with be delivered in about two weeks or you can also buy the Leopard X2 3660 (2380kv) a good motor too. Obviusly your boat equipped with a LH will be in another league but never ran one of these motors.
    My boat lenght is 67cms (26,3") and turning a modified 1450 (46mm cup 3,4) has a top speed in the high 60's equipped with a 4S Dinogy battery (5.0A 65C)...I would get a try to these motors.

    Also the T.P. 3650 - 2310kv . this motor has produced 140 mph in a small rigger.

    I used to run that motor in my Hydro2, I settled on an X437 heavily detongued and backut at about 34mm for racing at 1000w average, speeds in the low 60s.

    Hulls like that with no rear sponsons or skis I start with the CoG at 20% of the afterplane, but it will depend on the prop, I like low lift props so my CoG will be further forward than Gill's on the same boat.

    Moving the strut up and down alterrs the AoA of the whole boat (the tub is like a wing) inc sponsons, the sponson AoA is better adjusted by moving the extensions.

    That hull was designed for Hydro1 (about 50mph on 500w) it has a tight shape and a lot of aero lift to do it, so I doubt you will fit 4s with anywhere near to 5000mAh inside. 60 should be pretty easy, and with the extra weight you are putting in it it should be fairly happy there, but if you decide you want to go much faster at a later date I think you will reach the hulls stability limits before the motor's limits.

    In some riggers, there is a ski in the back, similar to the JAE design. I was planning on adding one to this hull, to the left of the prop.
    Here is the idea: Could I use the tail end of this ski as a place for a in-hull water pickup? This would allow the use of a thin rudder with less drag.

    that water pick up area should be ok , having the ski offset to the left should give the prop clean turbulence free water to run in.

    Larry, mine also has the single ski on the left side. Funny you ask this I just pulled mine off the shelf last night and thought that would be a great spot for a water pickup. May have to do that. I will get some measurements tonight for you. What size pack are you planning to run?     the ski on these setups usually goes to the bottom of where the strut is. it looks like you need to extend that ski. I suspect as much, since the videos I saw of you boat look like it is not airing out

    I would think you would tune this up with just one battery, so you don't alter the COG.

    Larry good point about the battery. Although I don’t race so the boat is more just for fun. I use 2s for sport running in an oval, and 3s for some SAW passes. I run the strut all the way up against the tub, its about level with the rear ski. That picture shows it low because thats when I was modding the strut for a normal flex cable, it had some 2 piece garbage when I bought it. I’ve wondered if a flat bottom strut will help it air out more? I just built it last year and have no prior experience with an outrigger so I was kinda winging it Lol. I will take some measurements/weight in a little while!

    Yes looking at the pic of the strut etc it would be better to run a flat bottom strut [ speedmaster ] also try some lifting props as both of these changes will certainly assist in keeping the back of tub up in the water thus causing less drag and more speed.

    Thanks for the info. I just ordered a ProBoat ul-19 strut (flat bottom), give that a shot. I have speedmaster on some other boats but figured I'd give the ProBoat strut a try. Here's some measurements Larry, weight is rtr with a 3s 5000mah soft pack. The tub is 3.5" wide. Just let me know if you want a specific measurement of anything. I'll get an updated video of mine after I swap the strut.
