    Question Another Discharger experiment

This one I will ask a bit of advice on.

I mainly run 4S packs and I have one set of 6S.

Bought 10- 1 ohm 100watt resistors and planning either 2 banks in series of 4 or 5 in parallel to obtain either .5 ohms total or .4 ohms. This will pull either 33.6 amps or 42 amps respectively.

They will be stacked like the one's from RL Power on 12V fans.

3 layers of fans sandwiching 2 layers of resistors.

Do you think I should use 4 or 5 resistors?

That's all I need to know.

I do have a watt meter and a cell monitor to link all together but it will be manually operated as I sit and watch the voltage.

Just a crude mock up. 4 seems neater...

Can I ask why you are doing this?

Sometimes I charge packs and don't get to use them all. Discharging them trough a charger is a very slow process and undue wear and tear on the charger.

This is to take them close to storage then I use my ISDT balancer to finish off.

I can also cycle packs once or twice during winter.

Thought it would be fun to try and replicate something for less than $30 Cdn.

Powerlab chargers actually have a port for this type of unit.

This is what RL power sells to plug into the Powerlab charger.

I don't use these chargers but this is the basic concept.

I use these, from Ebay. Set to stop discharging at 3.86 volts (about 50% charge). Takes about a half hour for a 5000 pack.

I've seen them. Just another way about it. I'd rather get it done in less time.
