By now, most of you should know I'm back. For those of you that don't remember or don't know, my boating pond is rather small, relegating me to micros, or "moderate" 4S boats. My old Campbell hydro (originally LSH) is about the biggest/fastest thing anyone could run in this pond.
One nice thing I like about the micros is I can put them in a case for transport and storage. Now we all know there needs to be a way to rescue stranded/flipped boats and the fishing pole with a tennis ball is a great solution. Sometimes though, the distances involved or other factors make the idea of a rescue boat a better alternative. Back in the day, I built the Micro Rescue Rigger that would break down and fit into one of my boat cases. It is powered by a geared Speed 400 motor with an old Graupner outdrive that I had lying around. Because of it's general shape and appearance, I had to paint it in farm equipment style (besides, I had the paint left over from my MHZ refinish project ).
So on my first outing, I had several occasions to put it to use. Suffice it to say, it worked fine, but asymmetric loads had me using full rudder to keep it going in a straight line. I have since increased the rudder throw to compensate for this phenomenon.
