I was tired of looking at the piss poor rattle can paint job someone laid down on this hull. I originally had planned on a variation of the blue and silver Bud Light Mystic paint scheme, but decided I might do a simple vinyl job with the American Ethanol scheme since both boats are from Illinois and built specifically to race at Lake of the Ozarks. Well, simply vinyl turned into a full sand and prep, then all paint and clear at Bonzi in Indianapolis. Dan Hofman gave me a quote I couldn't refuse so I shipped the hull down to them two weeks ago and a good friend of mine hand delivered it to me this weekend back in Chicago.

Fun fact, the owner bought a school in IL to to house the real race boat and workshop. He donated a good amount of money to the community to build a new school elsewhere. The boat sits inside the gym and I believe I heard the motors get worked on in what used to be a science classroom. For those of you who haven't had the pleasure to see this boat in person, it's pretty impressive to crawl around when on land and even sexier when in the water....

Progress tonight: mounted the rudder, hydraulic arms, click drives and epoxied in the servo mounting tabs

Progress so far this weekend: Drilled, tapped, and installed the antenna mount. Drilled out the flush water outlets on the side of the hull that were clogged with paint and buffing compound. Cleaned out holes and installed stainless canopy thumbscrews and rubber washers. Installed servo mount and cut rudder cables to length. Tacked the rear motor support rings in with CA, now gluing them in place with JB Weld. Once those have set, I'll start mocking up the battery sleds and tack them into place.

Got the lipo sleds siliconed in place. Normally, this is a step I enjoy on a build, but these were a lot of work because so much was hidden under the front deck. It's much harder to get the masking tape in place so far forward and even more challenging to remove it without dragging the tape through your work.

The water jackets kfxguy turned down for me on his lathe are just a hair too big in diameter for the TP motor cans. I found a set from TFL that have thicker O-rings, but still need to get them machined and wrapped in carbon. Once I get the motors in place with the jackets for the last time, I can cut the motor wires, solder the bullets, and start my ESC mounting tray. I think the next punchlist items are cutting the flex cables and installing the hatch seal.
