Almost everyone uses 3k tow cloth in the 180-220gsm range for adding to a premade structure, if you want significantly lighter than that the price shoots up despite getting less material, 1k 90-100gsm is usually at least double the price per meter, or 4 times the price per weight. Heavier fabric is no more expensive so 400-600gsm gives you a lot more material and strength for the money, but thick 12 k tows give a lot of print though if it is not buried in a thick layup, and while the strength is the same, 2 layers of 200gsm at 45degrees will give more torsional rigidity than 1 layer of 400gsm
I don't know what the typical imperial measurements are for fibres, would 2oz be 2oz per square yard or 2oz per square foot? 200gsm (grams/square meter) would be roughly 6oz/square yard, or 0.7 oz/square foot.
You can use glass for reinforcing too if you use S glass you lose a fair bit of stiffness, but very little strength compared to carbon, and it is a hell of a lot easier to lay up and a hell of a lot cheaper, especially in the lighter weights.
