Nice 4s run! I have a handful of smc packs they're great, have had them going on 2 years.

There's a member here jpriami that runs in the same location you do I think. Havent seen him on here in a while though, I know he got a 36 zelos when they first hit the shelves. Looks the same and he's from TN

Vinny does it again with another cool adjustment tool. FWIW, the strut and mount interface on the Veles is nearly identical to the 29 V3 cats. I use a scribe to etch lines in the strut where it sticks above the horizontal mount at my different settings.

    Thanks!

Yes, This is one of the lakes that Justin has ran at in the past. I haven't seen or heard of him running at either of the two lakes since the "Geese" runs a year and a half or so ago at the other lake.

That's a cool idea. That would make it easy to make changes in the field.

Good run! That's the fastest I've seen on 4s. What size props is that?

Thanks Rafael! That prop was a 1816. I tried to run it pretty hard almost through most of the run to check the temps and they seemed to be held in check. The ESC was 140° and motor 145° so I'm calling it good from my experience with the 3831.

Temps are on the border, but if you are not getting smell of epoxy from motor then you're doing OK. From what I have found, the solder will melt off the leads connecting the stater to the 12G wire before the motor burns.

FYI, manufacturer says 150* is max for each.

Good info Rafael Thanks! I'll push it a bit harder since now I know that I'm still under the manufacturers recommended max temps..LOL!

The Neo magnets start to de-guass at 160deg F, so you’re just making the motor weaker. This causes it to pull more current, which in turn makes it hotter... I would suggest keeping it below 135, because there is heat soak after the run when the water cooling stops. You can buy motors with high temp magnets, but they are pretty expensive. I think 200 degrees is the hottest that extended temp Neo mags can take...

Great information! Thanks Craig. I'm not concerned at all about the ESC temps I have been getting, but if I start seeing above 145° in this particular motor on a clean run from start to finish then I start looking to make changes. I tested my 1815 prop and it is roughly 2mph slower than my 1816 on 4s in this boat with a little lower temps but still near 140° after the same type of run. From my experience over 30-35 runs that most all were in the neighborhood of 140°-145° range performance wise I haven't had the slightest issues at all with the 3831 motors and if I can continue to get fast speed results after multiple runs as I have been able to do even with the slightly higher temps than most are accustomed to seeing out of the traditional RTR motors I will be a very happy customer. Especially since you can sometimes find these motors in the $65.00 range to purchase. If they cost $165.00 each then I would be leaning a little bit more in the direction of propping down...Lol!

Those hi temp motors are $300-400! Neu has extended range. I have a question: are you taking these reported temps off a data logger during the run or after the run? If after, these are pretty typical. I have a shore cooler to keep it from heat soaking too high. I found that to be the trick, still allows me to use cheaper Leopard motors and not degrade them on hard runs. I’m not racing, but still the same, I run very hard.

I think it’s about right... My data logger shows the motor temp sky rockets, as I’m idling in... Ive started taking a few cool down laps after really legging it, or should I say fingering it! So you’re seeing max temps, but not while the motor is running. The windings are usually hotter than the magnets, about 10 degrees typical.

The Neu equipped Veles 29 gets a podium finish placing 3rd in the NAMBA Nats. Not too bad with virtually no setup time. Great Job Ken!

Default A positive for the New Veles.

On a positive note for the Veles at the Vegas Namba Nationals. Ken Haines was running a Veles equipped with a Neu motor and was having some issues with the handling/turning of the boat and due to the boat being brand new to Ken and all the classes he was running test time was limited. Ken and I chatted and I suggested a few things that would help him to get the boat dialed in better. Ken made those adjustments but he had already added a small skeg to try and help it turn better, but the skeg he added created a straighaway problem that Ken did not indentify until after the 2nd unsuccesful heat. Before heat 3 and 4 the small skeg was removed that was suggested from a fellow racer (like he was using on his Skater) and in the last 2 heats the boat was stellar and the word on the street was that it was the best boat in the field. But unfortunately for Ken those first 2 DNF's allowed him to only to recover to a 3rd place overall finish. Stlll all in all a very good showing for Pro Boats new release! Good job to Rafael on this one and again to Ken for another great finish!

Thanks for the update. This is very good news with very useful information.

I think the take away here is that wheel time along with tuning for one's personal driving style is key, and it doesn't need add-ons like, like a skeg, to get the boat to perform well . Great job and big thanks to Ken for taking this box stock boat (other than motor) and throwing it on the water in such a big race. I have no doubt that if he'd have had more time to tune it and get used to the boat he's have taken first.

    No problem Rafael!

On another note I received the replacement flex cable for the Veles today and Horizon was nice enough to send it totally complete with prop and all! The crimp looks much better than the original as well. Shouldn't be any issues with this one as long as you keep her under 75mph...

My first flex broke exactly the same as yours. Personally, I wouldn't waist my time with their "Updated" flex. I have one, the crimp is supposed to be better, but it still looks the same as the original. just order this one from OSE. You wont be sorry.

JAZA NZ Sorry to hear about your problems. I got an upgraded flex cable from Travis (kfxguy on here). He made up some Veles flex cables a few months ago that were some of the best quality ones that I've ever seen. Sometimes I can be a little rough on things but mine has handled everything that I've been able to throw at it with no issues at all. You should contact him to see if he has any more available from the batch he made up. I highly recommend it over the stock shaft. Even though my stock shaft never broke I was always weary of running it very hard. Contact dasboata on here and get you a 1716 prop and you'll never look back. Good luck with it.
