For "D" wind motors = 0 or 1 Degrees Timing, anything more just causes heat.
They are not like a "Y" wind .

Is there any reason to do 1 over 0? Is there a difference in performance?

I set my "D"s at 1 Degree, just enough to stop cogging.

Timing has NO effect on performance on a "D" wind, it just causes heat.

Want to know more about cogging. Sounds like a learning experience.

Related question: Would an "automatic" timing setting like on a Swordfish be trustworthy or harmful on a D?

Cogging is when a motor shudders on startup. It doesn't know if it wants to run forward or backward.
I have heard that Swordfish like the automatic setting for "Y" motors, but I don't know about "D"'s (I don't run them)

I can only select 0 or 3.75 on my esc. What would you suggest?

I would say "0" If it gives you major problems then try 3.75 but watch for heat.

The timing of a BL motor cannot be a single value, the motor wouldn't work nearly as well if the timing was static like an old skool brushed motor. With decent quality ESCs it doesn't matter if you choose "0" or "5" degrees, the ESC decides what is the best timing based on feedback from the motor as the load changes. The timing you input only defines a timing range from which the motor chooses the right timing. You may set "4" but the ESC may actually use "8" simply because that is what the motor really needs at a particular moment. You are fooling yourself if you think there is any real difference between settings "0" and "1"...
