    looks great..very clean work..i lov e my mk2 45..i did motor in back but thats just personal preference

    I love the build! One suggestion would be to start with a smaller prop. 58 mm is pretty large for that motor and flex cable, it may work fine but to be safe I'd begin with something around 55 mm. I assume it is one of the newer low lift 17* rake props....

    BTW I love the Dash 8!

    Thank you Fluid! The prop is 17* rake, and it looks overkill just sitting on the boat I was originally going to go with a 2214, but couldn't find anyone who ships it internationally. I'll be inspecting the flex after each run to keep a close eye on it.

    Yes, the Dash is such a beaut to fly! Very stable and handles well even in high-crosswinds

    The ESC arrived, and it's far smaller than I thought could possibly be for a 250A 8S ESC!

    Next, after waiting 4 weeks for the connectors to arrive (thank you, local post office!), I soldered them on to the ESC. Castle 8mm bullets on the motor and main leads, and 6.5mm Polarized connectors for the parallel adapters. Added a Hifei anti-spark wire as well.

    At this very moment, a tap decided to break off in the motor mount. So I've temporarily mounted the ESC outside the rails with velcro, until I can get new thicker end-plates for the motor mount.

    Lastly, I've extended the on/off switch using a servo extension to use the kwik-switch at the rear. This is the final layout for the time being (apart from the ESC on the side)

    Batteries with velcro strips on the bottom, and velcro straps to secure them down. This lets me place the batteries with the leads on either end, as I will probably shorten the wires once the ESC is mounted in it's final location.

    As of now the boat is ready to run. However I've decided to change the hatch to a screw-down type at the last minute So it will be a short wait till I can get the hatch secured properly.

    Default Finally back in action!

    Work has been busy so haven't been able to catch up on this thread in a while! However, here is the progress as of now:

    The hatch bolts are done using 4mm rivet nuts, which were epoxied to these metal furniture brackets I found.

    I used kfxguy's idea and used these small pieces of brass tubing to hold the nut in place while the epoxy cured.

    Afterwards, I bent the brackets and glued them to the hull using small pieces of heat shrink as a gap-filler. Afterwards, I pasted the hatch seal in place.

    Default First few runs!

    The maiden was a bit of a disaster; I had used normal solder instead of silver solder This lead to the shaft slipping several times until it wouldn't grip anymore. Also, as Fluid stated, the 58mm prop was way to large and the ESC kept cutting out on me at full throttle.

    However, the hull was free of leaks and I thankfully had no problems with the bent steering rod.

    After getting a new shaft and having it soldered properly, I changed the coupler to a better-quality Hydro-Marine one.

    The next runs were much better! I changed to a smaller ABC 2114-10-50 prop, however I still had cut out problems. Looks like I've forgot to account for the extra amps and blade-area the ABC props have vs the Octuras.

    Apologies for the short clips, better videos coming in the future!



    Funnily enough, most the data logs were overwritten from bench-testing afterwards so I couldn't find any info regarding the runs The Excel readout didn't show any signs of over-current limiting, so next I'll try with shorter battery leads. Also switching to a 1914-10-50 prop.

    Before the next run, I've decided to finish up the ESC mount. Ordered new thicker end-plates and CF ESC plates. Then drilled and tapped them accordingly.

    I wanted an inlay in the etched letters, so I cut an old credit card and sprayed it red, then glued it under the CF plate

    Afterwards I used 35mm quadcopter standoffs to make up the mount.

    Default First successful run!



    Eventually got the time and tide to take the boat out for a spin. Finally had a good run where nothing broke

    The setup turned out to be really stable at all speeds. At first I had some trouble with overly-sensitive steering, especially to the left since it would hook very easily. Setting the end points on the transmitter to 60% helped a lot with that issue.

    ESC data logs showed peak input current at 247.7A and a power output of 5400watts with an ABC 1914-10-50-CLL prop. Temperatures were on the warm-hot side on all components; which I blame on me running through the packs almost non-stop, and the warm tropical temperatures.

    No leaks whatsoever even after being swamped a couple times thanks to my reversing skills

    GPS speed was somewhat low at 80.6km/h (50mph). I had the strut set all the way up for this run, so planning to lower it for next time and see if that helps with the acceleration and speed.
