    Ray,

In general (until a change is made, which is likely to come), the current (I just checked) NAMBA approved motors for P-Ltd Cat are

    Brand Model Description
    AquaCraft AQUG7000 L36/56 7.2-18V – 6 pole brushless
    AQUG7001 36-56-2030 – 6 pole brushless
    AQUG7002 36-56-1800 – 6 pole brushless
    Himax HB3630 1500 brushless – 6 pole brushless
    ProBoat PRB3310 A3630-1500 – 6 pole brushless
    PRB4017 A3630-1800 – 6 pole brushless
    DYNM3835 A3630-1500kv – 6 pole brushless,
    water cooled, marine motor
    DYNM3830 A3630-1800kv – 6 pole brushless,
    water cooled, marine motor
iii) In addition, the CD has the discretion to allow the following:
    (a) An aftermarket motor that is a re-labeled and exact copy of any
    approved motor.
    (b) Any generational change of an approved motor, or a motor that
is used in a Ready To Run (RTR) offering from a manufacturer
that produces over 100 units of said offering, as long as there is
no more than a 5% increase in any of the following
manufacturers specifications as compared to any single
approved motor: Kv, maximum constant amperage rating,
    mass, and MSRP.

The class allows up to 10Kmah with no cell (up to 4 max) over 4.23V

    Length limit is 34.0000 inches.

The current record is 67.77mph with my Drifter / Aq2030 / Turnigy 120 / Dinogy 3700's 4S2P / Snowman El Kabongo prop Several un backed-up runs over 70.xx mph btw

If you want to do "SAW runs" with the DF cat, the 2030 with the right prop could be the ticket although Ray P. and company in Az are getting their P-Ltd Cat heat racers going max fast with 1500KV and bigger props. The CC ESC is always a good choice
    2008 NAMBA P-Mono & P-Offshore Nat'l 2-Lap Record Holder; '15 P-Cat, P-Ltd Cat 2-Lap
    2009/2010 NAMBA P-Sport Hydro Nat'l 2-Lap Record Holder, '13 SCSTA P-Ltd Cat High Points
    '11 NAMBA [P-Ltd] : Mono, Offshore, OPC, Sport Hydro; '06 LSO, '12,'13,'14 P Ltd Cat /Mono

Ray, the DF hulls have quite a bit of lift forward and will need an air dam at the front of the tunnel. There is an advantage with this short hull in using a smaller diameter prop to reduce prop walk. This will require a high Kv, and of the currently legal motors IMO the PB/DYN1800 is probably the best choice. It’s actual Kv is not much different than that of the AQ2030 motor. The AQ2030 motor quality has been spotty.

High timing (15*-20*) is probably best. If you use high quality cells you won’t need more than 3300-4000 mAh. The ABC 17* props are currently the best. Consider a knife-blade prop, supercooling the motor/ESC and heating the cells prior to the run. Good luck!
