Default German SAW 2016 in Munich

The German SAW event is happening starting today in Munich! I don't know where there are any direct feeds of information, but HPR Powerboats, and others, are posting info on Facebook. I'll try to update this thread as I see more information.

I know that Tyler Garrard is in attendance, running a new Q-Hydro that Brian Buaas build for him and that Tyler powered up! (Brian's hull, Tyler's electronics!). He, and two others there, I believe including Joerg, are all going after the Overall record! Should be interesting!!

The event is held at the Olympic Rowing facility in Munich Germany.

Here is the video from last years event:

    For the conversion challenged :

    288.438 kph = 179.2271 mph

    273.076 kph = 169.6816 mph

The evolution of fast electric. I don't miss round cells or brushed motors.

Is the there a list of all the results somewhere?

    Thumbs up

Jorg has been kind enough to provide some details on his record-setting hydro. He is one part fo the JAG's team - Arne and Gunnar Hold and Joerg:

    Boat: .......... JAG's T Hydro 2015/2016, 125cm long, 55cm wide
    Motor: ......... LMT 2260/5
ESC: ........... Highly-modified Schultze 18.xxx with lots of big FETs added
    Battery: ...... 8s1p RoaringTop 5100 80C, charged to 4.23V/cell, prewarmed to 45°C
Propeller: .... JAG's C2044/3 (exact same design which set the 140mph record in 2006)
Hardware: ... 2.5mm piano wire with own design strut and rudder bracket, knife blade rudder

Acceleration power of the second pass (185 mph average) was 590A @29.0V and flat out power was 320A @29.5V after about 4s of full throttle. RPM came up to 63,900.

The boat has dual air brakes in the vertical stabilizers which cooperate with the proportional motor brake in the ESC. Total boat weight is approximately 7.5 lbs.

I want to thank my friend Joerg for providing us with this information. Of course what he did not tell us about was the very hard work over the past three years which lead up to this record. Combining that with mostly custom equipment, his record should stand for a long time (unless he wants to try to top it himself - but then why should he? He set the bar VERY high.)

Well, now that we know all the details, it should be easy for anyone to throw one of those together!

$89/pack seems a bit expensive, no?

They're not Graphene right? 0.5 IR sure seems a heck of a lot better than even the new graphene Revo's at ~ 0.8 IR or so.

No, I don't think that's a "bit expensive". About inline with what a Turnigy Graphene 4S pack costs.

What kind of IR do those 60c packs show?

Mine show 3.7 IR or so on most cells...

So those 80c are completely different tech.

We've seen 1.0mOhm or so... Depends on the temp.

What temp are you discharging them at, and at what amps??
