Default Time for a Mean Machine

After reading for months on all kinds of boats, motors and esc's . It looked like I would spend four to six hundred dollars on a rtr and still have to modify it carbon fiber floor transom all the seems and so on. I've read up on the mean machine, tough boat and I like cats. I have a couple F1 boat , i like the way they fly and for the money the MM2 was the way to go So here is my build not high dollar but dependable. You will even notice an outboard on it ,I could not wait on my parts so i pulled it off my F1 to play it ran very good. Ina couple of months I think I'll build a twin.

Some of the parts i had I made the servo mount out of a piece a stainless steel. I had a couple 3674 motors one 2250 kv and one 3100 kv. I'm going to start with the 2250 on 5s and a m 445 prop. I used a .187 cable drive , an OSE raider 6s 150 amp esc, speedmaster sport strut, flex cable saver which paid for it self first time out, OSE- alum. rudder w/pick up, K&S brass tubing Du-bro safety locks, and Aeromarine coupler.

So far it seems to be fine. I set it up with the program card. Do you run one any problems?

As soon as I said no problems, the next time out it went up in smoke. On 3s just learning how to drive the boat very little wide open time. Talked to Steven he said send it back, man I just can't say enough good things about those guys.
I just got a barbwire xl for my grandson have you had any problems with yours? thanks.

Mean Machine looks great!!! I've had quite a few Aeromarine hulls over the years and never had any issues, some of the strongest hulls out there IMO. I still run a 50" Apache I've had for 13 years. Good luck with the new ride.

5s 2250kv with that boat and that 45mm prop is to hotness setup for 5w btw... If set up nice you may land on a x442 prop .... I've done a lot of 5s setups in those mean machines and 5s 2250kv is a hot setup and definitely to hot for a 36mm can size motor... your pulling some amps for sure .. a 2200kv mamba monster with 5s in my Mean machines setup on ragged edge with x442 would get things pretty warm even the t180... 130-140 temp ish...which is about as hot as you should go :)

Yes sir, I agree I ran it once like that and it was just crazy. So i went down to 3s 11.1x2p. The 36 can is all I've got right now. Next month I'll do a 4074 leopard. Just learning how to drive it now , I think I'm gonna need a bigger pond.
Do you think the 3s will work on the 4074 or would 4s be better?

4s a 4074 2000-2200kv with x642 prop is a nice fast all around great setup ... decent run time nothing silly hot... a t-180 would be recommended also 5s same motor x442 prop nice hot setup should net 62-64 when setup so it's riding in the water not in ragged edge but still nothing wet like lol... your setup as is would have given you no problems on 4s with a x440 or 442..even with a 120a esc. Those were really big props to run even with a aired out hull... and even more so during setup trial and tuning runs ... the 4074 motor size castle 1515 2200kv.. neu 1515 1y... Leopard 4074-2150.? Etc very close in power terms the neu obviously a best buy if you can afford to.. many use the Leopard or castle in these boats with great success... if only running 4s a 120 esc will make the cut but won't give a ton of headroom a esc like you already have or t180 esc and you won't have to worry much about a smokey day :) 5s with those mean machines and the 4074 are a hoot tho lol...
Couple of my old ones I have others of them too had a bunch of those hulls over the years ... Super fun boat!

I'm running an ose raider 150a , I thought that should be enough it's rated for 6s and I just think that is to hot. So prop it down some, it was running on about the last 2 inches of hull and I could not even open her up.

Put some stripes on her today, wanted something different. Also added another water intake for the esc.

ok, I went with the advice of JMSCARD and got my 4074 leopard 2200 kv in the other day. Took the boat back down to the flex shaft tube, redid a few things and going back together didn't like the way the stripes were so stripped them off and started over. I was able to squeeze 55.5 mph out of her on 3s with the 3674.

Went out wed. boat ran a lot cooler on 4s with the 4074 I ran another water pickup for the esc it was just warm to the touch . I don't think the water pickup on the rudder is as much as it could be, I'll try and open it up some for the motor, it was warm. I have to get me a temp gauge for sure . I was running a m 440 prop that seemed to help with the temps.

Looks good... btw you can also try moving your esc south of the motor instead of ahead of it... then move the packs a 1/2" forward or whatever needed to keep proper cg, reason being is you have awful long water tubing... with it south of the motor you can really shorten your water tubing and routing... not saying its the problem but certainly won't hurt your water cooling needs lol, and will clean up the inside of the hull a bit.... being you're using a raider and not a old school t180 with standup motor wire posts it still should fit under the hatch nicely...

good job though :) I need to make a trip a couple hours south and pick up a FE MM hull from Steve here at OSE... I'm having Mean machine withdrawls lol

Thanks ,she's still running a little wet. I agree about the water lines I'll move it and see if it helps . I really like this hull It's pretty stout.

Well perfect then lol.. just move the esc back and try it with packs where they're at now... that should help some on your cooling I would bet. And you'd be hard pressed to find a more stout small cat... good luck and most of all have fun! Lay the boat on the table and your strut should make it so the propshaft is basically even steven with bottom of hull... you can rest the boat flat on table and when the sponsons are even with flextube that should be a good baseline for your strut height... then mess with packs for cg after that... lmk if you don't get what I mean lol.. I can do a better job explaining via a sketch lol
