Thats classic!! It's also very frightening!! If I want socialism, I will move to a different country. Or if he wins, I might have to move to a democracy somewhere else.

I'm not sure if that's directed at me, but if it is... Hardly... "Spread the Wealth"... That's a direct quote from the man himself... we all heard it ourselves...

Those out there drinking their Mountainberry Punch or their Soarin' Strawberry-Lemonade (http://www.rickwalton.com/freeu/brains/koolaid.htm) are the ones listening blindly to the media machine and just going along for the ride here...

Just watch the pendulum swing, folks... You who don't like how far right the US is are about to swing it to the most extreme left...

You know what happens when you overcorrect to the left when your boat is heading to far to the right, don't you???...

Does that mean he's opening his $7M house to the homeless? Or does it mean WE'RE opening our $150K house to crack addicts?

    Or just opening our pockets?

How do you all feel about the big 700 billion$$ socialist program that the good Senator McCain voted for.....
What about the tanked economy under the bush admin......you really want at least 4 more of the same ?? Really...???

All the clever little inuendos by the far right just show how desperate they are....

Why not admit the last 8 years sucked donkey nuts and realize that a vote for the right (You really think Palin is suited for executive leadership....) will only lead to at least 4 more of the same failed policies

Obama bought his house in 2005 for $1.65 million. Not $7 million.

As far as the latest flight of fancy in calling him or his programs "socialist" it would be nice if people understood that what socialism actually is.

Socialism refers to a broad set of economic theories of social organization advocating state or collective ownership and administration of the means of production and distribution of goods, and the creation of an egalitarian society
Not sure that any of his programs advocate state ownership of the means of production. Of course the recent bailout does pretty much that, and it was also supported by the GOP, so I guess they are "socialists" too.

And as far as the spread the wealth remark, maybe a little research is on order, another US Senator holds the same ideas, or did until he sold his soul in his quest for power:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X2JPbQOHEkY

BTW, even if you are "Joe the plumber" you tax burden would go up about $700 per year. So if your adjusted gross income is say $250,000 per year, or a little over $20,000 per month you will pay about $58 per month more in income tax.

Again, to me the true genius of the GOP has been their ability to get the people least helped by their programs and policies to be the most ardent supporters.

Oh well, just a few more days to go.

Well... its still a free country for the time being, so we are all entitled to our opinions... at least until the Dems pass the "Fairness Doctrine" and it's follow-ups and really take control of the media...

Of course... that's going to make it awefully difficult for those that asked for this to bitch about what they got... but those are the breaks... Looking forward to it!

See you at the voting boothe...

You missed the point. Say what you want to, but at least try to be factual. Obama is being toasted for his "spread the wealth" comment, and yet McCain said the EXACT SAME THING in 2000. But that does not matter.

And don't say it was too long ago. One of the things the GOP is pushing with McCain is his "experience". Oh well.

Hopefully the guy who gets the most votes will actually win this time around.

Bill... That's not accurate at all... I listened to and watched that video and he did NOT say the "EXACT SAME THING"... He said, and I quote (well, as best as I could type it down as he was saying it):

You are questioning the fundamentals of a Progressive tax system...

it's to some degree because we feel like wealthy people can afford more...

I believe that when you reach a certain level of comfort, there nothing wrong with paying somewhat more. But at the same time, it shouldn't be totally out of proportion.

NOT even the same message... CERTAINLY not the same words... and I think it DOES matter... The WORDS and IDEAS and context of statements matters... There is a HUGE difference between a "progressive tax system" and one that wants to tax those more wealthy americans in order to send "tax credits" back to approximately 40% of working, or maybe NOT working, Americans... That's "redistribution of wealth", and it's real, and it's what O wants to do. He's SAID those words, he's promoted the idea, and his track record supports that that is what he will do...

Sorry... Not my cup of Kool-Aide...

Got it. So Obama proposing a 3% increase on the portion of income in excess of $200,000 to "spread the wealth" and McCain's comments are totally different. So a 3% increase is "totally out of proportion"?? Amazing.

And I am sorry Darin, the very essence of a progressive tax system is that the more you make the more you pay.

A progressive tax is a tax imposed so that the tax rate increases as the amount subject to taxation increases. In simple terms, it imposes a greater burden (relative to resources) on the rich than on the poor.
And really, are you in that 5% that will pay more or in the 95% that will get money back?? Just curious.

First off... 95% will NOT be getting money back... And NOT just the top 5% will pay more... I'm in the middle... I'll pay more, and won't get anything back... I work... I pay my taxes... the checks will be coming back to those who may or may not work... and DON'T pay taxes now... or won't under O's plan...

And let's not forget the "tax cuts" that Clinton promised, only to take it all back and RAISED taxes once he was in office... once he saw the real numbers... so much for campaign promises. We have a heads up this time.... even the economics experts say there is NO WAY he can pay for his promises without substantially raising taxes...

Second... I pay LESS in federal income tax today than I did 8-years ago... That's just a fact... I suspect anyone with Kids, or a mortgage, etc., is as well...

Third... The companies people work for... The hobby shops we buy from... The sponsor of this VERY site, are all in the percentage that WILL be taxed more under O's plan... he's said it himself... "above $250,000"... So next time you order an REK coupler, or Neu Motor, or set of turn fins, or a new AQ Sport Boat... think about that additional cost that will be passed down to you under O's tax plan for small businesses... and I think we all know that $250,000 IS considered a "small business"...

We obviously differ substantially in our opinions on this matter, but I reject the implication that some, including most of the liberal run media, keep suggesting... that just because we don't agree with O's policies, we are not educated on the matter...

I am also happy to just agree to disagree and we'll see where this country ends up...

Ok there is a difference in Obama's "spreading the wealth" tax plan. His idea of "spreading the wealth" means that he now wants to now be Robin Hood! Take from the rich and literally give the poor a check. Not just tax the rich at a higher rate because the money is needed for infrastructure or something else of that nature.

I don't think that McCain is the answer either. I think he is the lesser of the 2 evils, but Both are a bunch of lieing crooks!!!! I guess it really boils down to where you stand on issues of the family and religion. Right to life, gay rights, partial birth abortion, and infanticide. Lets face it. The system is broken. Everyone in Washington is rotten to the core. They steal your money and now they shake it in your face. They are crooks who belong in prison. Soon people will have enough, and we all remember what happened the last time the country was devided in 2. Or maybe no one paid attention in history class???

What makes this country great is that we can still have this debate on an open forum without worry that someone may come knocking on our door!

I look at it this way, I only make about 32k a year gross. I'm raising four kids, live in a modest home, and drive a 15 year old car. (and have a couple of nice FE boats).
To me at least, as a family, we are comfortable and happy.
Last tax season my federal tax was exactly 0 dollars! I don't want to take any money from individuals or companies that have EARNED it.
If I want health care I will just have to pay for it myself. My kids do BTW have health care through a state program that costs me less than $20 a month.
I guess what I'm getting at is that I'm just fine as is, and I'm willing to put in the time and hard work to care for my family now and in the future.
I've always believed that I should work for what I have and be proud to do so.
I don't WANT any money from the people who happen to have fought their way up the ladder further than me.
I think you all know who I'll be supporting in Nov.

I agree whole heartedly on the principle that you work hard for what you want. I'm not looking for handouts. On the flipside, I have no proplem taking money I worked for to give someone a helping hand, not a hand out!

You make a good point, and it's obvious you do give a damn about the less fortunate, but in my opinion it should be matter of choice, not a mandate from the government.

Obviously.... but it's interesting how those on your side of the aisle like to just skate over the fact that this bill was the DEMOCRATIC version originally... with 20-million earmarked for Acorn, etc... The original Republican bill was quite a different deal, using loans, etc., to help the companies out, but keep them responsible for doing the work and getting back in balance.

In the end, they all pretty much signed it, so I'd consider that one a wash... you can hardly blame it on Bush...

Which leads to the second point that so many want to ignore... the reason the mortage crisis started in the first place... Hud... then Carter's reinvest in the community acts... then Clinton's opening the doors for "affordable housing for all"... Right up to Barney Frank and the rest of those Dems leading the Senate and the House who fought off EVERY attempt to regulate and reel-in Freddie and Fannie... ALL of that is ON record... you can watch it on YouTube... you can read the history of it on the net... Yet THESE are the people you want to put right back into power...

"I've Messed things all up... You MUST re-elect me so I can fix it..."...

Are there Republicans that can be pointed to? SURE... but the policies are straight out of the Democratic handbook... They played "affirmative action" with our mortgage system, were warned that it was dangerous and put the American tax payer at risk, and here we are today...

It's made worse by the fact that there is a War going on and we are spending a ton of money there, but that doesn't make the overall a fault of the Republican philosophies... The basics of Capitalism work. Too many cooks in the kitchen are what are messing it up and causing this crisis... we need LESS of that, which means LESS government interference, not bigger government and more spending...

The president has very little say over federal policies. Ultimately it is congress that makes the budget and congress is currently controlled by the democrats. When Clinton was in office he did exactly what he should have, nothing. The economy was going very good due to the technology. Enron was going was going on while Clinton was in office. A lot of money was being pumped into the economy by the banks giving out mortgages. It is my opinion that this is why home prices got so out of control over the last 10 years. since there was an abundance of buyers with a lot money from the banks the sellers could ask for more money. It is basic supply and demand. Clinton was just a great speaker and nothing else.
