Default Burnt the caps on the battery leads

Hey guys running a seaking 180 ,has all summer on it ,the caps on the battery leads smoked and burned themselves off,the hatch may have been pinching them ,can I solder in a big cap I got from OSE? Ran great before this ,took the one out of my Spartan and back to running in the bay ,there was salt water inside the hull I know that kills lipos ,does it kill caps too?anyway if you could give a little direction please ,I don't really understand why these caps need to be on the leads but I have one I can re install to test ,thanks ,

    Cool

The caps are required if you want the ESC to last. They do wear out with use. You should replace them with the same cap specs as it had from the factory unless you want to read the huge - and very useful - ultimate cap thread. The caps have to have a higher voltage than what you will use, and at least the same capacitance as the originals. Plus, caps have polarity so solder them on the right way, otherwise you'll hear a loud pop the first time you plug it in......

Holy cow I've read so much on caps I know less than before,so what size do I order? My other seaking the caps are showing corrosion too, either from salt water or use ,don't know which but I need to fix both so someone please tell me if I replace with 2 of the same? Are they in series ? Or just a larger one? And what size please ,thanks ,

I bet these boards aren't coated for water resistance. Maybe, maybe they are getting wet but, maybe another reason for this issue???

Saltwater in the hull!!?? Yep, you need to add a coating to this board!

These are the caps on the power leads so you know they are gonna get damp,it's for a water proof ESC ,I think the salt water did it ,never had this problem all summer,

Or just make your own parrallel/series bank... with like $2 bucks worth of caps from OSE or Ebay. Just don't buy the Rubycon ZLH caps originating from China. There will be a couple US or EU based ones in between 100 China suppliers.

The 1000uF cap will work as long as the voltage rate is high enough and you pay attention to polarity. Of more concern is a wet hull. There is nothing inside an FE hull that saltwater is good for. You need to learn how to make your boat dry inside or you will have more and more trouble in the future.

Someone said to leave the stock caps in place when adding more ,mine burned off so that's why I want to get it back to stock ,the 1000 uf are close enough? The castle bank isn't waterproof ,I'm just running 6s ,also on my buggies I run 6s and they don't have caps I wonder if I should install one on each ESC.?

I suspect that there are caps inside the ESC. Adding the right caps is seldom a bad idea.
