Default Tp4070 vs 1530 neu in same boat, no changes

I was wondering what the sheer power difference is between the two. I was going to post a thread asking but decided to do a test for myself. I have two customers that's I'm building boats for two different customers that happen to be using those two motors in their builds. So the both told me throw them in my mono and test them. Here's the details:

    Kbb34
    Sf300 lite
6s. I use the exact same batteries. These runs were different days so there may be a +1 to -1 difference but you'll see there's no contest
    Same prop. Abc 1914-10-50
Settings the same. Basically a motor swap and battery charge.

    Tp4070 is 1770kv
    Neu 1530 is 1580kv

Looking at the kv you'd think the tp would have an advantage......

    Tp

    Neu 1530

These motors are exactly the same size too. In the pic they may look slightly different but they are exactly the same size.

And to add to it, I changed props and ran it again. It went even faster. Not the result I had with the tp. I used the 1915 and 1914 any it went the same speed within a couple tenths of a mph. Here's the result of the 1915. Ridiculous for 6s with a 1580kv motor in my opinion. And I haven't even got the hull lined out yet

Really you're comparing apples to oranges but, nice to see some tests.

The 1527 is actually closer to a 4070 than the 1530 NEU. The Neu 1530 is a 1/4" longer than the TP so, its going to be less stressed than a higher kv smaller can motor.

    A 4070 is actually only 18 oz's compared to a 1527's 21.8 oz's or the 1530's 23.8 oz's so, even comparing a 4070 to a Neu 1527 is a slightly out of sinc.
Then there is the price difference...
Tp motors are nice but a Neu is that much nicer...

I won't disagree with you except on one thing. They are the same size. I had them side by side out the boat (should have taken a pic then) but they are the same size. Maybe the rotor is longer in the 1530, but the can s are the same size. Much bigger difference in power than I expected tho. Much bigger.

On a side note, I've seen people wondering the difference. Including myself. I've been wondering for a while. Now I know. For sure.

Very interesting comparison Trav. You've got me looking at at a pair of 1521's now in place of my 4050's. Mmm...

I've tested a 1521 vs 4060 the same kv.... They were they same speed. Just letting you know. I think a 4050 would be a little less than a 1521.

Wow Travis that is definitely an eye opener!

If you punch in even optimistic slip and efficiency numbers into the calculator; 1580kv, 6S, 100% eff, 15% slip, 1.5 ratio, 45mm dia it only computes out to 75mph. But you got 80mph. Man I would be curious to know what RPM you are turning to run that fast. Surely the label is right on the can?

I'll have to check it with my kv checker.

    Couple things:

    1) batteries being used are 4.27v per cell
    2) prop is 48.3mm, not 45.
    3) abc pitch is a tad more aggressive than octura.

So the 80mph run was actually with the 1915 not the 1815? I'm still thinking of trying one if they come back in stock lol

Yea. Sorry about that. My phone seems to autocorrect me on stuff I type more. I fixed it. To clarify all runs on this boat were with a 19 series prop. The 1914 went 76.6 and the 1915 went 80.1 apologies for the misprint.

Do note these props cavitate a bit before 20ish mph on a mono depending on how far the prop is from the transom. On my voracity the same props cavitate about half as far but the prop is further from the transom. These props bite well on a cat however.

kfxguy: I know we talked about this in another thread, but what do you think the differences might be between a 1521 2900kv on 5s and a 2050kv on 6s? Would the higher kv option be making up for it in higher amp pull, or am I just trading torque for rpm here for the same result. Or should I just go with it and find out for myself

This depends on the hull and the weight and what your trying to do. The 2900 is going to pull a lot more amps on 5s vs a 2050 on 6s.

Well, it'd be for my Shocker... I got a new esc on the way so it'll handle the increase in amps. Plus I'll most likely use the extra 5s packs for the kbb45 for 8s.

Those results are pretty crazy Travis, do you look at the data logging and compare loaded rpm?

I have a video with the boat flipping. Only video I did of it but you can hear it screams. I'll post it if you want.

I agree. Loaded rpm on the tp was around 30k. I'll pull the log on the neu tonight. I'm tell you tho... The sound of the neu sounded so powerful.

I don't need to add any more volts to it. At this point it's fast enough. I may run it on 7s but that should easily put it in the 90's. This boat is sold anyway so I don't want to push it any further. The guy is more than happy with 80 on 6s. Matter of fact I'm making him order some 2s packs so he can run it on 4s and go 55-60 and not worry about going that fast. Here's the one video I have of it.

Not going fast isn't an option with a 1530 :p

How come it sounds like its going higher rpm than it really is when you're about to take off from shore?
Screams like a LMT though... maybe better.

You must have the strut way up there. My 19 ABC doesn't ventilate anything like that.

Guys please keep in mind that the 80.1mph pass was a better prop. The 65 vs 76 runs are with the same prop. I also think that (my theory) if the neu can push it a little faster then it will sort of multiply itself (no other way I can think to put it) because it will put the boat even more out the water. For example. Say the neu has the power to push the boat 5-6mph faster. Just in a power difference. Then that extra speed may create more lift and increase speed even more. That's my theory. I could be full of it or I could have a point. Who knows. If there's any doubt, I'll be glad to put the tp back in and run it again. I'm definitely not aiming to fudge anything. I just wanted to share some actual results. Believe me, I'm having a hard time believing this stuff myself. How bout I do a short video of each motor on my motor kv checker? I can do that this evening. I'll video it more this weekend and if it weren't so dang hot I'd swap motors at the lake. Here's something I'd like to point out......

The 1500kv neu in my other mono ran 65-68. Here's a video of it. Listen to the difference. This is a 1914 prop in this video.

The strut is pretty much adjusted the same from measurements off my previous boat. Yea, the 1530 sounds sick on 6s.

So basically the 1530 is a pretty good jump from the 1527 too. 7-10mph is worth $15 and couple ounces

This 1530 is a competition wind and costs a bit more.

White boat had a 1500kv 1527. Green boat has a 1530 1580kv. White boat was a little slower. Both videos are on 6s. Let me see if I can find the fastest video of the 1527....

Here you go. 1500kv 1527 on 7s.....still isn't as fast as the 1530 on 6s..... But this was a 1914 prop. 1915 wasn't released just yet at this time. I had one in my possession but didn't try it before selling the boat. I can't seem to keep these things. People keep buying them from me. Lol
