    Default A little help with flex shaft and collet!

    Hey guys, looking for a little assistance with my Miss Geico 29. I upgraded to a Leopard 3660 motor and picked up a upgraded flex shaft also. Best I can tell from my measurements is that the motor shaft is 8mm or .296 inches and the flex shaft is almost 4mm or .147 inches. Mind you, I am not the best at reading a caliper but this is what I got. I looked in the OSE store and I don't see a collet (coupler) that is 8mm x 4mm. The shaft I bought came with a new one and I either didn't tighten it enough or something because it keeps spinning inside the coupler. I tried to use the stock flex shaft and it did as I have read on either this or another forum, it came unwound. I tried taking the new one and tinning some solder on it to build it up and increase the diameter but that did not work either. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

    Whoa, hold it!
    As far as i know, Leopard motor in that size does not come with an 8 mm shaft! ( If they do, then I have been sleeping at my desk all these years, lol......)
    Your reading is a bit off.
    Which cable and where did you buy?
    The flex cable is .150, so yes, may be on your caliper it reads .147, that's close enough to tell you that it is .150 .
    When you said "the shaft I bought came with a new one..." , do you mean a new collet?
    You can't tin solder on steel wires without using proper flux. may I point out that it is a wrong approach. Hopefully no damage is done---if it is already unwound, you need to get a new one, I am affraid.

    You can buy anti -seize grease from auto store:http://www.permatex.com/products-2/p...bricant-detail
    Dab a bit on the threads and the prongs on the collet, this will allow you to tighten it much further without galling the metal and damaging the collet's machined contact area. There is no reason why the cable should turn lose inside the collet.
    The anti-seize grease will help.
