Default Which TP4070 Motor for 6S2P?

    I'm trying to decide on a TP4070 motor for 6S2P: 1440kV 3Y or 1330kV 6D on Hydra 240 and/or Hydra 240 ICE HV ESC?...

I'll be running it in a SprintCat 40 and a 41" Genesis Offshore hull intented for sport running.

TP states 230A for the 1440kV 3Y. I know it exceeds my current 6S2P/10000mAh/25CLiPos, but will it be too hot for the Hydra 240 ESCs? Am I better off going with the 6D (not supplied at OSE) at 178A with my Hydras?...

If so, then I'll also get new 35C+ 6S packs. I already have a Neu 1527/1Y and 1527/1.5D which I don't want to use until everything is dialed in.

    Thanks!

On larger size boats like this, I highly recommend a 45+c battery with more than 5000mah each, especially in a single motor setup. If your running the packs in parallel you could probably get away with 35c packs but I still like to know I've got a large cushion just incase the boat is running wet, over propped etc. I tend to over do things but I don't have problems doing it that way. I'd opt for the lower kv if it will give you the speed your after because it will be easier on the esc.

Sound advice, kfx! I might go with the 35C only because the 45C may not have a great storage life. My LiPos spend more time in storage to justify the few times I am able to run boats during the summer. 1330kv it is! Unfortunately, OSE doesn't list them, and I love OSE's water cooling jackets, so I have to see how I can "special order" these...

I'm going to be honest with you. I'm doing a test right now (been going on for over a year) on a 2s 5000mah 50c gens ace pack. I leave it fully charged all the time. I have not seen any degradation in performance or capacity so far when I use it. I don't care about this battery one bit, I just want to see for myself what will happen if I leave it charged all the time. Over a year and nothing yet. I feel like there's lots of myths and misinformation about lots of things in life. I like to find out answers for myself. Sometimes it costs me....but at least I know the truth. If you do two packs in parallel, it should be ok...I still prefer a cushion. What batteries are you looking at getting?

I am re-entering the hobby after a 5 year hiatus, and the last time I cycle charged my LiPos was 3 years ago. The PolyRC 5000/25C packs are in good shape - 1mOhm, 3.8V/cell, and cool on recharge. I asked the question on the Battery Forum, it seems LiPo quality changes faster than the seasons. The recurring theme of quality cells seem to be Dinogy, Hyperion, Revolectrix based on recent NAMBA records. I may go with either Dinogy or Revolectrix. Compared to 5 years ago, 45C sounds astounding! Any personal preferences for LiPos?...

Honestly man, lipo preference is a touchy subject. It seems to bring out some ill feelings with some people so I'll stay away from getting into that. The names you mentioned are all highly regarded and well proven contenders. (Read my signature down below lol)

    Got it, thanks kfx!
Same thing was mentioned on the Battery Forum - Ha, I must have missed some heated debates over the 5 years on LiPos...

I have some packs that puffed in less than a week I think it was, that I had setting fully charged...
curious to see how your Gens works after setting so long

I use it in my recovery. It stays fully charged. A couple days ago I traded with my son, now I have a revo 2s pack that I'm keeping charged all the time. So I guess I'll have info on that. I'll find out if my son is keeping the gens ace charged, he has my habits of putting batts on storage right after use.

Travis, do you have a charger or a device the measure IR? I think if you keep checking on this you will find the IR does rise if you leave the packs charged..... when I run my boats, I usually run all my packs down to a safe level for just leaving for the next charge cycle. But when I fly I often charge more packs then I end up using, my 4s 2200's, 6s 3300's that I run in my planes if left charged the IR of the cells do go up.... I strongly discourage leaving the packs charged, if the boat you are running the 2s pack in doesn't have a high amp draw setup you might not notice much, but if you start pushing that pack you might starts seeing what I mean. In fact my packs that the IR has jumped up on usually need to be "warmed" up before they start performing decently... they can still be used but it takes a good 1 minute of my flight before the packs warm up and the resistance comes down to a level where the packs perform decently....

Long story short there are many write ups on the plane/heli forums about leaving packs charged and the effects of doing so.... def not something I would do with your HV 70c revo packs!!! :)

Did you get it going yet ? What motor did you go with ? Why would you go with the less powerful 1527's ? Sorry for all the questions but I'm in the same boat :)
