ESC waterproofing gel??

Hi Guys,
I've been hunting around and can't find what this is called, or even where i can get some! Any help would be good!
The gel coating is starting to come off my Etti ESC and i don't want to get a new one just cause of that, if i can repair it with some gel, great. Was also thinking of maybe using it on the circuit board of a receiver?

The most common is dp 270 which is avail here under water proofing and hatchtape...

Thanks Lonewolf, do you know if this goes solid or stays as a gel? Like what is originally used on the Etti ESC's.

it gets hard. I am not sure of what is used on etti esc's but I do know that the dp270 works well...

Its a gel? I would be cautious on using the dp270 on that esc. You are going to have to somehow remove all the gel first.

Good point Steven Corrosion x might be a better method???? Unless you can remove all the old coating...

Yeah, the Etti has a gel coating under the heat shrink but that came off after it was used a few times (heat shrink that is). Corrosion X is just an inhibitant....not a sealant so i'll guess i'll have to remove the old gel and try with the Dp270.....try it on a cheap ESC first!!!

sorry to say that but this is not thrue! all my ESC's are moded with silicone sealant! and mines are "coated" so that the silicon make a kind of shell all around the ESC and also glue and holds the cooling plate in place!
basic silicon sealant will resist at least to 200°C (400°F)

heat transfert compound, for better heat transfert from MOSFet's to heat sink!
if you have access to, conformal coating material are better, few of them are acrylic, lot of them are silicon based and most of them are polyurethane.

Ok, maybe thats the cheaper way to go then!!! I'll have a go with silicon sealant, thanks. The guy that told me works with sealants too......oh well!

Think you misunderstood the 2nd bit you quoted....i meant under the heat shrink (the shrinking plastic that goes around the batteries too, easiest way to explain it!!) the circuit board is covered in gel. The heat sink, is still well stuck to the circuit board!

YEAH! you know I'm french and sometime understand after reading and reading again!!! They may have injected the silicon in the shrink tube while in place on the ESC??? This kind of encapsulation was commonly used before conformal coating material were designed!

I'm the same Ed.....as a matter of fact...we are actually quite close....as I'm from Jersey! But saying that....do they do that heat transfer compound on here? Could do with some....

you can get some heat sink compound from RS components p/n is 554-311, 20ml tube for £3.23 and that's the one I'm using!

Keep an eye on this product. It would be awesome if we could get our ESCs coated with this stuff.

This product must cost a fortune, coating inside and outside of electronic devices whaou!
But I beleive the application process cannot be done without specific equipements, not at home!
We don't really need this stuff for our ESC, just a spray of Humiseal 1A33 and the job is done! I have a 1liter thin at home, it's the best, used in automotive, military certified... bad thing : contains VOCs!

certainly a good product too if CC choosed it! I've used many different materials when I was in the conformal coating business but not that one.

Thanks for all the help guys.....That shellback stuff would be the mutts nuts if it can be done at home! Well, I've decided to get some of the DP270 and the CC spray stuff that Ub Hauled said.....i'll let you all know how it works out! But i'm also going to use Silicon for all the receivers i got.....

Use DP270 for the recievers, its the shiz and you dont use much doing a reciever.

Cool......got quite a few to do that's why i thought using the silicone would be cheaper.....but if not much is used, then that's good enough for me! Thx

Once youve coated it you can hit it with a hair dryer which will thin it out, and help the excess drip off.
