    Default Twin Outboard Pursuit

    Hi all,
Here is my TFL Pursuit with twin outboards. The lower legs are TFL mini outboards, the ESCs are 120A Seakings, and I run 2 x 4s 2700mah Zippy Compact lipos.
The transom is reinforced with a 1.5mm FG plate.
Definitely the most fun boat I own.

Yeah it's a dream having so much room to play with!
I am working on getting a vid. In the mean time, check out DutchRC's channel on YouTube. He has build one as well and served as the inspiration to my build.

Can you tell us any info of how to properly mount outboards to a mono like this? I'd like to try something like this in future but, I'm clueless as to the height and position of a single OB or double for that matter????

I'd like to do a single on a 26" TFL bling rocket I have collecting dust.

Here's the vid you were speaking of. He's only running 50% throttle which I can understand with having no rescue equipment..........looks pretty stable, would love to see it at WOT.

Cheers guys! I had to cut it short as I had an issue with one of my battery connectors desoldering. I am perplexed as it is a relatively low current setup and it is happening on the negative battery terminal.

It does get some decent speed, and sounds good! Only complaint I have is that there is quite a bit of torque roll. However, this will soon be rectified as RCBB have managed to commission a run of reverse rotation shafts for the TFL outboard leg.

Here is a quick video showing the stability at SAW.

Quite a bit of porpoising. Do you guys think it is best to play with the thrust angles or CoG first?

You will need to adjust both is my thought, from watching the vid. Tweek and test until it runs sweet.

Hard to really tell from the top two pictures, but it looks to me like the motors are mounted too low, props look like the shaft is below the keel line of the boat, also looks like they are pointed down a good bit. Once again it's a bit hard to really tell as the hull isn't really level with the table.
If my boats upside down then who owns the one I thought I was driving the last two laps?

Believe it or not, but that is the maximum up angle the mount will allow. The centre of the props are perhaps 1mm below the keel line, but I think you are right. I may need to raise them to allow the hull to sit deeper in the water for stability. There is no sign of the props lifting out of the water during turns, so I have a bit of room to play with I think. I will try raising the mounts and report back.

Raised the legs ~3mm, which is the maximum I could do with the mounts.
As you can see it may perhaps still be too low. If this is the case, I may have made a mistake with the positions o the transom.
I will test it Tuesday. I hope it adds some stability.
With regards to the thrust angle, I may be able to machine the mount a little to allow the legs to be lifted to neutral.

You may be able to fashion a wedge type plate to go between the transom and the mounting area to give it more of an upward angle.

Good idea. I wonder if I could get a piece of wedge shaped aluminium to save me trying to shape a piece
