Default To add or not to add extra Capacitor Pack to a Hobby Wing "SeaKing" 180 v3 Amp ESC

I am wondering why the Hobby Wing "SeaKing" 180 v3 esc has such a small capacitor pack and should I add an extra Castle Creations Capacitor Pack to this esc.

I usually add cap banks to my ESC's, or I fix 'em if i pop a few caps. I would use the same size and uF and add a bank of 2 or 3 if you feel you are gonna be pushin the 180 on 5 or 6s.

You can get the 35v/1000uf caps right here($0.75 ea.), good for 6s, or a few different options of pre-made cap banks alsohttp://www.offshoreelectrics.com/pro...ories+%26+More

Yeah, I didnt realize Steven had them here. Those are the most widely used with the operating temp up to 105*c.

Here is the main page for the 1000uf at Digikey. The only advantage here would be that they have all sorts of shapes, lengths etc, for the 1000's. Some may want tall thin ones, some may need short fat ones.

If you don't feel like making a cap bank, the castle one is great. It has served me well. I run it on 7s with my t180 and I've even tried 8s. I have just started making my own depending on what I'm doing. Ebay is a quick, cheap and easy way of getting different ones if they don't have what your looking for here. I changed the ones I have on the t180 to higher voltage ones and added another 5.

Personally, I'm not as impressed with the castle, for the ammount of space it takes up, it is only a total of 880uf, less than just one of the individual $0.75 caps, which are 1000uf. IMO the wiring makes it very difficult to keep your wires short too. Yes, they are 50v, but I got 63v/470uf caps and a pair of those to me is still easier to deal with. Personally, I like the Hifei, or the big blue ETTI bank if you have the space.

thanks Travis, if you don't mind could you send me a couple of photos of how you fit an extra 5 in the rivercat hull please. Have you tried the new seaking 180? I had good results with the old version.

I had one in a customers boat. Seemed to work well. He beat on it in full on kill mode like it was an rtr boat and it never got hot. They are taller than the old one tho, very tight fit in a rivercat hull. Here's some examples of how I did the cap banks....the cap bank goes into the bow of the boat....

I dunno. I've got too much going on right now. Still have some tuning to do, things to learn. I don't know of any within a decent driving distance for me. I'll probably send one of my boats to olwarbirds to run it for me. I havent built a "saw" boat just yet. This boat you see is a "learning", budget, play boat. I've only just begun......

I am surprised that the version 3 has 35v 390uf capacitors and the old version has 35v 1000uf capacitors....so if I am reading things right I will need 35v 390uf for the new version 3 esc?......
