Is anyone running the Blackjack or Miss Geico 29 with a 4S battery in each sponson for a 4S, 2P setup with a total of around 10 to 11 amp-hrs of capacity? If so, what motor are you using? What prop do you find works best?

I do, 4s2p, 10,000mah. I run Leopard 2200kv / 4082 with m445 and/or x642…
Currently I have a Leopard 4074/2000kv, m445.
Getting a 4s battery into the sponson is PITA. Lol....

Thanks for your reply. Did you add additional bracing to support the larger, 4074 motor? Have any pics?

Well sir, I have...but...my main computer died a week ago and I have nothing left , still waiting for the new computer and I am praying that my back up works. Mean while I am struggling with another computer with Windows 8.1, ( I can't tell you how much I hate it, would rather go back to Windows Vista ) I will see what I can do, may be I will take a new pic. Essentially I used this :http://www.offshoreelectrics.com/pro...prod=ose-83005 for the rear support. At first I made a nice wooden one but it fell out during a flip over. With this I made nice rails around the trangle legs so lots of Epoxy could be poured in to the little "dam".

I run a pair of Zippy 4S-40C 3000's in each sponson. I only run an AQ 1800kv motor on a M445 for 4 minute offshore races and M545 for 6 lap sprints. Runs very nicely.

Tell me about it , I had wanted to practice for some driving skills, my brand new AQ 1800kv with a M445 burned in 45 seconds. ( it was nice while it lasted, ) Only thing that I can imagine was my over zealous soldering of the 5.5mm bullets might have over heated the insulation at the rear of the end bell...
Don't mean to drift away from the topic, but I will try to get another and run it.

Here are some shots, pardon the quality.

By the way, if running 4S, 2P and the AQ 1800 motor, do you think it's necessary to reinforce the hull? If so, how would you suggest doing so?

Actually I have modded out my Geico. I got rid of all the wood and installed a different motor mount from OSE. I actually have to tear out the stuffing tube and put in a new one since the mod I did left too much space between coupler and stuffing tube. I noticed after running this weekend that the flex cable is bent and can't be repaired. It could be cut shorter and used for some other project.
I added a layer of Carbon fiber from rear to about 2/3 the length of the hull. Lets see if I still have pics in here...
The motor mount I've changed again to a $8.00 OSE mount and a HiFei 120 esc...

How did you remove the wood?

Some snaps out in a pinch, others you have to be careful and slowly work them loose by wiggling them. Take your time, don't rush.

After the wood is gone, sand well, clean well with a solvent before gluing in anything.

Ray, thanks for the guidance. Is there any trick to pulling out the battery trays, or are the the same as the wood? Can you get them out without removing the wood?

To answer my own question, you can pull the trays out with your fingers and thumb. They pop right out. I'm very impressed with how poorly they are epoxied in place.

Ray, it looks like you stuck your battery velcro directly to the inside of the sponson, without using tray. Is that correct? Did you epoxy it in place, or just use the adhesive on the velcro?

I just used the Velcro itself but, i've been planning on putting trays in there forever, lol... after your epoxy has cured for about 3 days to a week, wipe it with some Lacquer thinner so the Velcro sticks better than mine It's been toughing it out well for 2 years now though...
My MG needs an Overhaul... Where's Chip Foose when I need him? I'm going to do the sponsons again, maybe 0.030" carbon fiber ride pads with sponson overhang.
If this other cat works out for LSO, limited racing classes then I might twin out my MG over the winter.
I've had this cat for a few years. Got as far as motor mount installed and hardware plus the mod on hatch to close the nitro opening... Still needs the sponsons done too, edges are too round.

Ray, thanks for the extra info.
I haven't heard of using carbon fiber for the ride pads before. Is there a good description of this somewhere? What do you mean by sponson overhang?
I'd love to see your MG twin build, if you do it.
