Getting closer to buying an ESC. I'm leaning towards the 240. Should I look at the castle 240???
I have a castle 240. I like data logging for new set ups so you don't hurt any thing. I am running a 2200kv 1515 cc motor. I've recorded 200 amp spikes with a x640 prop on 6s. With that said the 220 pro+ or castle would be my choice. Start small with the prop and go larger if needed.
I have noticed a disturbing trend lately....Guys running ridiculously high RPM to go faster. 50k plus! I smell burnt Motors and Drive lines!
Nah. I've done it and ill be doing it on my rivercat build. Ill run 4s just to cruise around the lake tho.
32" carbon rivercat single 4s 102mph, 27” mini Rivercat 92mph, kbb34 91mph, jessej micro cat(too fast) was
No that is not a typo. Had a 2650 kv in there.the boat is ran on 4s mostly now knowing more.
Don't run the castle, there is a reason they're discontinued.
A swordfish 240 is awesome and a great investment. Have had a few of them and they performed excellent. That 4092 leopard is def not a 6s motor. People run 4082s in cats at 2200kv on 6s but they're a different animal completely. The 4092 will surely explode on 6s so don't do it. I think the sf 220a will be fine for what you're doing.
The 4092 2Y is 1390 KV so on 6s it should be doing 30,858. Why would this motor not work on 6s?
I think the motor will work fine on 6S and you could get away with a T180 esc but, to be safe a SF220 will work just fine to.
Why the above poster would say your motor will blow up is very strange indeed. Since the motor is rated at a max of 125amps and you are only turning 30,858rpms, you should be just fine. Maybe he got confused thinking you were running 2200kv on 6S, who cares though right?

Oh wups thought 2200kv. 1390kv on 6 is more than conservative. A swordfish will be great and t180 works too. Sorry about confusion.
I dont get the constant "you cant run 6S on a 2000kv or higher motor" we been doing this for sometime (over a year) using Leo 4074, 4082 and Neu 1515 2200kv. no burnt motors, we use T180 esc's in several of these setups no magic smoke ! we run hi C Lipos and just recently we finally puffed a dinogy that had been run at least 1-3 times a week on average, weather permitting for approx 9 months. I agree that these are not heat setups, they are SAW boats, we have others set up for heats. I dont see how this is disturbing or a Problem, we just need to properly educate the newcomers that this is not the route to take to start with, that it takes proper boat setup knowledge and handling skills before attempting 60 mph +++++ ..... DJ
Ray, I agree, thats a very misleading video. Exactly what I was trying to point out. They didnt do anything to re-inforce that hull or strap down lipos etc....guess you just cant fix stupid....DJ
The video is for idiots! See how long that hull and driveline last. Again on this forum I am going to say there is Scary trend of over Volting setups.
It's the same thing with cars too it seems. Over volt it and see how fast it breaks then complain because it said max rpm 60,000 on the endbell... Not good. It's just with boats things go bad a lot faster.

Ok, sorry to ask, but am I reading this right? don't run 6 cell batts, with a 2000kv motor or higher Kv motors? Im new an learning.
Really does depend on setup, for a heat or sport boat no, for a SAW boat yes...checkout this discussion https://forums.offshoreelectrics.com/...-s-the-problem
