Default 2013 SV27R Box Stock High Points Champ, Jimmy Francisco Receives AquaCraft Cup!!!!

Better late than never… I wanted to get this finished before 2014 started, but it took a little longer to get everything pulled together.

I was honored to present MMEU Club Member Jimmy Francisco the AquaCraft Cup as the 2013 SV27R Box Stock Class High Points Champion!

For those of you who don’t know, our MMEU Club has supported a completely box stock/spec class utilizing the AquaCraft SV27R platform. In addition to limiting performance modifications to the boat hull, we also limit the use of ONE battery size, shape, and manufacturer (GrimRacer 4200mAh LiPo’s 2x 2S packs for 4S voltage). The club also maintains possession of the S/B’ed props that are only used for race days (GrimRacer 42X55). Props are randomly drawn each race morning and returned at the end of the day.

The AquaCraft Cup is a handmade traveling trophy that will stay with the winner for the year. At the end of the racing season when it’s time to crown a new champion, the previous year winner will return the trophy so it can be passed on to the new class winner.

2013 was Jimmy’s second year competitively racing FE boats. He has really come a long way in a short amount of time. In addition to Jimmy driving the boats, he also gets a great amount of support from his Dad playing the crew chief roll. Actually, it’s a great collaborative effort of a Father and Son racing some RC boats! In addition to running the SV27R stock/spec class, Jimmy has cut his teeth over the last couple of years racing an AquaCraft UL-1 in our P-Limited Sport Hydro Class. This class is one of the most competitive in our club and Jimmy and his Father have done a great deal of work modifying the boat to continue to stay competitive. It’s really great to see, not only a new member, but to see his family getting involved also.
As a result of Jimmy winning this class in 2013, I asked him to provide me a short profile on himself by answering a few questions for me. The questions were as follows:

    1. Jimmy, tell everyone a little about yourself.
    2. How did you get involved in RC and in FE Boats?
    3. What is your favorite part about racing FE Boats and/or the MMEU Club?
    4. What are your plans for the 2014 racing season?
    5. Lastly, what did you enjoy most about the SV27R class and do you have any suggestions to improve the class.

Below you will find Jimmy’s direct response.

My name is Jimmy Francisco, I am 21 years old, and am in my last semester at Michigan State University for my Bachelor’s in Accounting. The first experience with RC was a Traxxas Stampede I got for a birthday when I was around 10 years old. Since then I was in and out of the hobby while racing on road touring cars for several years. I was looking around the internet in college during 2012 and stumbled upon some videos of FE boats. Something about them was very interesting to me and they looked like a lot of fun. I was very interested in getting involved by purchasing an FE boat but as a broke college student I didn’t have the cash. Every once in a while a few friends and I would go to the casino and I happened to have a fairly successful outing during the time in which I was looking into boats. I bought a UL-1 in early 2012 which was the only boat I ran in 2012 and had some decent success with it in P-Limited Sport Hydro finishing third in the class this past season. Running one class was not enough though, so I decided to get an SV27R to run in the club’s stock class.

Of the classes I have run and observed so far SV27R is definitely not the fastest, but in my opinion it is definitely the most fun. The only variables are tuning and driving, since all aspects of the boat must remain stock. This class is sometimes considered to be a beginner’s class, but to be successful in it both the boat and the driver have to be spot on which makes this class very competitive. What I like most about the class is that it eliminates the equipment being the deciding factor as everyone has the exact same components to work with.

The club has really been a great experience since the first practice I went to. Everyone in the club is very willing to help and there was definitely a lot to learn from the first time I put a boat in the water. When it boils down to it, in any club the people are what make it fun and seeing everyone in the club is what always keeps me coming back.

For the upcoming season I plan on running SV27R again as well as running a Whiplash in P-Sport Hydro. I have run the UL-1 in P-Limited Sport Hydro for two seasons and decided it is time for an upgrade, and full P power should definitely be a lot of fun.

Congrats Jimmy and WAY TO GO!

I like it also,,,but......as its for the "stock" SV class, I assume that the 1800 kv motor can now be replaced with the 2030Kv motor.

Come on Doby, your just jealous that your "modified" SV needs a 2030 to keep up with Jimmys stock SV... HA HA!

The Trophy was built my Mr. GrimRacer himself, Mike Z. The MMEU club has been working in conjunction with AquaCraft to make this class a success. We as racers support them buy buying their products, and the manufactures support us by improving products and listening to the racers needs.

So far, I feel it’s been a very positive relationship for both parties.

$100 dollar race to anyone with a SV27R compliant with MMEU SV27R rules. This is only guaranteed to the first person to take the challenge.
