Thread: I bought a VR3 motor

    Default I bought a VR3 motor

I bought a VR3 motor - is there any other upgrades I should do? I have an Octura x431 prop on it (seems to get on plane sooner, but I think top speed might have suffered?) and the VR3 motor. What else will get me fast without breaking the bank?

Jon let me know how the motor runs. I have a couple of rio's for my kids that could use a bit more speed with a complete overhaul.

Steven I'll let you know. I took the boat out this afternoon all stock except for an octura x431 and the boat moves good, it flipped over at one point though (probably my skill) and is out of the water given the slight breeze/wake. I have seen videos of the VR3 and it looks like it really moves the boat!

I have a VR3 laying around from a Vendetta I had. I'd like to put it in a Mini Rio if I get one. Does the stock ESC and battery handle the amp draw? I tried it out in my Reef Racer and the batteries couldn't take it. They got to hot and I killed the cells.

So, are you using the stock battery, or do you have something else?

Got the motor finally. The post office called the box "damaged" so it was on hold for a couple days - motor inside is fine.

So I removed the stock motor wired the new one in with capacitors. Its slightly smaller diameter than the stock one I think as the hold-down is not holding it down. So, I need to like make a spacer for that. However i hooked up the flex cable and MAN the RPM is a lot higher on this motor. I cannot wait to see this hooked up. If it were just the engine mount I'd have it done, but I also removed the stock serve/esc platform and am going to be making a CF on that is more rigid.

I ran the VR3 in my rio for awhile. Its a good motor for the boat. It goes ok. I got a clip of my dog chasing it around. Its a VR3 motor, on a 2s lipo.
Keep in mind I was playing with the dog, not trying to go wide open.
