Default Graupner Sydney Star ( Photo Heavy)

Well after 2 & half years ive finally started my Graupner Sydney Star so far ive spent everyday for a week & half on it, the plan was to have lights/sound/smoke along with the bow & stern thruster all working too have the lights/sound/smoke working off electic switchs but you run out channels & i cant affored to upgrade from a 6ch to a 7-8ch transmiter at the moment.

im still working on it so the photos below are work in progress

    Nice work!!
I was big into scale modeling until I got the go fast bug. I found myself in a similar situation with only a three channel radio.
I'll post a pic or two that may get you fired up about a inexpensive way perform a few of those tasks.

This cam switch was controlled by the third channel and controlled the Nav, bridge, cabin and anchor lights.

    DSCF5451.jpgDSCF5450.jpg

I used this esc for a bow thruster. The esc was connected with a Y harness to the rudder channel.
The servo was connected with a Y harness to the throttle channel.
The normally open contacts (held closed with the throttle off) on the micro switch energized the bow thruster esc. With the boat sitting idle the rudder channel controls the bow thruster.
If you were on the throttle above an idle the micro switch opens and the bow thruster esc won't have voltage.

    Make any sense?
This was in a Dumas American Enterprise and at the time I had more time than money.

Doby I realize that the AE didn't have a bow thruster, but I had one and thought it would be cool. It was cool! The guys were tripping on the way it was wired.
I stripped the boat down to paint it and it's been sitting every since. I'll get back there one day.

Keep up the good work Chris.

Thanks for the great comments guys

Ive just got to play with the mixing setup on the transmitter now to get the thrusters doing what i want, from doing clockwise & anticlockwire rotation to sycing & to side to side crabing when the aux switch changed, but no rush for that still got to name her sydney star or find a ship that close and use that name

Doug love that wooden slide board setup ive fitted one of these to control the lights 2 way switch from one channel but the guy does make 4 way ones and there not too much money

    Hi Wetter

Yeh ive seen that one on ebay its a very nice model but at $4500 alittle over my budget, but its not the largest sea container ship any more its the new triple E class 18,500 containers

I do have a steam boat project but its a very long term one i'll post a new thread for that

my inspiration for these lights was from night shots like the one below of container ships there not pitch black at night

It might look out of sight in my last post that was test/build stage, but ive got the first six on the ship now dont look to bad now under the containers

do you have the scale peeps for her? Captn', crew, maybe a few sea gulls perched on some places.

She had a test voyage about 2 weeks ago to setup the bow & stern thruster so she can spin on the spot and crab side ways, there are about 5 crew on atm had to hand paint them (not fun at all). once ive put her name on the bow/stern and the rest of the lights be ready for some on water photos

Ok PvtSpoon! on deck looks like two lights are out
cant wait till your night time finale.
how are the containers staying in place just with the lil' pin posts on the tops and bottoms or is there tacky stuff between also?
what did you use for ballast?

Boat clubs test tank no fish only dead spiders at bottom

yeh i was using my compact camera not my DSLR and the flash is not as controlable so it over powered the smd leds lights

The containers are just big boxes with corrugated metal effect clading on them

the Ballest is is led shot in bag of 100g & 200g so can be moved about untill the level is found then be epoxyed in place
