Well, for those that have not seen, or have seen and wanted more info on the new Version 2 GP sport hydro updates, I am going to do a mini build thread hear and mainly just try and show the changes that were made to this hull. These two hulls are for OSE memebers H2O1 and Voepel. Hopefully they will enjoy seeing their hulls built!

Since I started on the sponsons for a GP310 and GP400 for some customers, I will start today by showing the change in width of the teardrops behind the sponson heals. Since I felt the tear drops could add to some blow off potential due to creating a possible airplane wing effect once a thresh hold of speed is reached, I decided to cut the width of these down around 60% of their original width. This should reduce that possible issue. I really love the visual look the tear drops give the hull, so I could not just rid of them! This narrowing also gives builders more room to install and tighten down their turn fin bracket...which was a comment a few builders shared with me..so two problems were hammered out with this alone!

While there have not been solidly stated issues from anyone running these hulls, we did find while testing a 1/8th scale hydroplane with similar design, the U-21 Eliminator, which actually has tear drops that were probably 4 times wider than any of the GP series hulls, the U-21 would snap off the water around 75mph. This was a constant problem, and I just figured it was a safe bet to reduce the potential, especially if these hulls are to attempt SAW records. Heat trim hulls will probably never experience this issue. The original GP400 I tested in heat trim as a 6s FE hull was running around 68mph and didn't have any issues.

Once I begin building the center sections, I will share the other major change in the V2 hull. Until then keep on the lookout! Here are the sponson pics with the new teardrop:

OK, finally back to these builds. Got the GP400v2 center built last night. Took about 2 hours. I will do the GP310v2 tonight to the same level, then epoxy/ glass inside both of them, and put the tops on tomorrow! Should have these done in a week or two. You can see the changes clearly with the pics of the center section quarter round location change. This gives the user a LOT more battery room. I feel 6s 10000mah should be no issue, and with the added stablity of the new changes, I would run a 1530 Neu 1355kv, and let it roll. Enjoy, Mike







4s 10000mah fits with ease. Lay the packs on their side and easily make it 6s 10000mah with no issues. The max 6s mah with the older gp400 was about 8400mah.


6s, 6600mah...or, add a 3rd pack and make it 6s 9900!


Back to the 4s 10000mah setup..you can see how much height is still available even without rolling the packs on their sides!

OK, GP310v2 has the center section about ready for interior epoxy and top deck. As you can see, I laid a few packs in there to give people and idea just how much more room their is up front with the V2 310 hull...Its a dramatic difference over the original hull..Those are all 4s packs! I unfortunately sold my Whip 20 I built earlier in the year and later on the guys I run with all get into P-Sport hydro again. I'm a bit bummed but, how can I make up my mind to go with what hull for P-sport hydro? There are a few choices and I'm down to possibly another Whip 20 or this hull maybe, even a Chinese FG hull.

What are the big dogs of P-Sport hydro using to power this hull... I mean the GP335? Neu 1521 1.5D or Neu 1515 1Y?

I ask because I know of a rock solid setup in a Whip 20 on a 1515 1Y, wondering if this hull rides the air the same as a whip?

Very nice boats here, easier constructed but, what to do?

Ray, either one of those motors would be OK in the GP335, however the 1521 1.5d is awesome in it, and that is what I ran, and what most of the guys racing them have gone with. Only way to know if its gonna run better than a whip is to try one........ There are quite a few guys running them, and having GREAT success with them..all the sizes actually. I get emails all the time from racers winning their events..and if they got 2nd..its cause there race buddy was running a GP hull too! haha. Mike

I just sent payment to Mike for a pair of GPs... GP265 and a GP335. I have something of my own design that I'll be trying for P-Ltd. I think that the GP265 could actually handle P-Ltd duty as well, if necessary.

Wanted to try something new, and Mike sold me. His stuff is well done. I wasn't thrilled by the appearance of these boats until he got the new cowls. Now they look right.

Looking forward to building and running these. Have no idea on power systems yet, but that's the easy part... expensive, but easy.

Darin, I received your payment. Thank you for the kind words. The GP265 could probably handle P-limited duty, as I personally had (2)- 2s 5000mah 35c Hyperions in mine when I ran it 2s2p with a 1512 motor on 2s. so I know it can handle the speed and battery size. The GP335 seems to really like the 1521 1.5d motor so if you have something in that size, you may want to give it a try. Talk soon, Mike

You bet, Mike. Your contributions to this hobby are amazing. The amount of work you've done to try to provide quality boats that actually get people BUILDING again, and in the short time it's taken, is simply unreal. And, like I said, the new cowls bring these together nicely.

As for power, that's the easy part to figure out. I'm actually looking at some quality but "other than Neu" options, just to see what can be done for less. I do have a 1515 0.5Y that would be an obvious GP265 N2 setup choice.

Thanks again. I am actually getting ready to do some nostalgic designs soon. An old open cockpit outboard tunnel, an outboard ski boat style hull, an FE crackerbox, maybe even an FE rigger of sorts. I want to do some laid back, fun projects soon. Something for guys like me that just enjoy running at the local pond and like it realistic looking. I have probably 20 different new designs I want to work on, just trying to find the time. The gas sport hydroplane build is number 1 on my list right now tho.

You know, a Castle/ Neu 1518 1Y would be a good choice for the GP335 as well. Ebay has them from time to time. Brian B. told me about a motor he was testing and I looked at them..the prices were right, but I cannot remember what brand they were, or if they had some sizes that would work for you. I will tell you, over the long term, I have found if I don't just get a Neu motor from the get go, I wind up having to replace what I bought with one. Now, I did contact TP Power about a custom build with higher quality magnets, ceramic bearings, and higher quality copper for the stator, and they put me a price together that was fair. I just ended up getting a Neu as the KV was right on the money, and the can size was right for my PX335 O/B tunnel in SAW form, so I went with that. We will see how that goes next month.

Finally finishing up a couple customers boats. The GP310v2 and GP400V2. Both turned out nice. Just need to lay up the GP400 cowling, and epoxy them, and they are ready to go! Mike

Darin, Just wanted you to know the V2 updates are done for the GP265, so you will get the first kit with the V2 updates in that size! Now all the GP series has the V2 updates. Figured you would like to know that! Mike

I have MAS Low viscosity resin and slow hardener for building. How do I apply it to get such a nice finish as the Blue GP335 on your website?
