Default What battery to use with XL-5 esc and S-600

Rio is stock except for S-600 Electrify brushed motor and Traxxas xl-5 esc. http://traxxas.com/products/parts/escs/xl5waterprooflvd
    Here's my choices for batteries: 1) 2s 20-30C 5000mah hardcase 2) 2s 40C 5000mah hardcase 3) 6 cell 3000mah nimh 4) 7cell 5000mah nimh

2S LiPo's - BUT, do not use hardcase packs in boats - water can get inside of them and cause lots of probs, soft case only in boats.

With that setup you could get away with 20C packs, but what if you decide to go BL in the future?? Or use the packs in one of your other models that may have higher power needs?? LiPo's are spendy, so spend wisely and get packs with a high enough C rating, never know what the future holds.

My own personal opinion is nothing less than 25C - I have a couple Onyx 2S 5700mAh 25C packs for my pede, but all my boat packs are 30C.

Thanks for the tips JW. I've decided to go for soft packs over my hardcase packs.

    Your welcome

Don't know if your aware of this, but Trax made 3 versions of the XL-5, first had butterscotch yellow case - might have been called XL-10.

2nd version has blue case, it's waterproof, but - does not have LVD... http://traxxas.com/products/parts/ot.../xl5waterproof - look at the label by the heatsink, says... Traxxas in red letters on top, waterproof in black letters under it - both on a white background.

3rd version also has blue case & is also waterproof, but does have LVD... http://traxxas.com/products/parts/escs/xl5waterprooflvd - easy way to tell the difference is the word "TRAXXAS" is red letters on a black background. Also says - "Low Voltage Detection" under the EZ-SET button.

Please remember the XL-5's voltage range is: 4.8 to 9.6 Volts - so 2S LiPo's only.
