Default Really like this charger, revoelectrix 8

First, no I don't work for them or affiliated with them or anything. I just got this new charger and have been playing with it. Really nice piece of equipment. I can parallel charge up to 6 batteries and balance them while charging. Lot's of power as you will see in the video.

This is what I bought. You can get it much cheaper on ebay.
    http://www.usastore.revolectrix.com/...PA-XH_Combo_44

The only thing I needed was to convert the connectors from deans to 5.5mm. I could have done it myself, but I found a place that had them made up for cheap so I just ordered a bunch of them.

Things I like about the charger
    1. High Power
    2. Simple to use.
    3. Does not Need a PC, but you can hook one up and see a lot.
    4. Nice ready made set to charge 6 batteries at a time.
    5. Balances while you charge. (It did a perfect job of it for me).

Things I have found that I am do not like or have not figured out how to do(learning curve).
    1. Is there a way to parallel charge without hooking up for balancing?
    2. The 2s hyperion plugs don't work with the balancer. This is because the 2s plugs on the hyperion are 4s tap plugs, I have to get adapters. Not really the fault of the charger.
    3. I noticed tonight that if I pick to charge "3c" to let the charger decide on the amperage, it is very conservative. If I manually put in the amps then away it goes and charges fast.

    More to come...

Powerlab's are pretty much the #1 chargers in the market. Enjoy it. :)

Just picked up a Powerlab 6 so far so good. I agree with you on the C rate being conservative, so I choose amperage instead.

Yea pretty much the same but the software, and control system is indeed different from the powerlab.

    I see...
I downloaded the Fatboy software to see, and it will only work to upgrade firmware.
There is no other tabs to see other options as you can see using the software for PL8 ver.2

So this is where the money is saved....

PL8 v.2 software is very cool. No need to use any buttons on the charger... Very cool.....

Still learning tricks on my PL8 v.2 but I love it!!!

    Great video!
So cool I could be a small part of it :-)
I have the same charger now and I do share your positive opinion on it...
Also, Thanks for showing the power supply and saying few positive words about it.
This PS unit is very cool for real... Small, quiet and it has more than enough juice to get maximum out of your great charger....

    PS
Your batteries on the video, what is the manufacturer suggested C rate for charging?

Yes, it will show you the IR (Powerlab 8, not sure about the 6 since I do not own it) on each cell on another folder tab(screen) as it charges. You can save the results and over time look at how the batts are doing.

I said "5c" in the video , but actually the hyperions I have there are rated at 6c. I spoke with a fellow club member to see who has done that, because that would be pumping in a tremendous amount of amps. 6c * 3300mah = 19.8amps!! wow. Really I am fine putting about 9 or 10 amps which is about half of what the battery is rated at. I would not mind hearing from others who are braver than I about their experiences putting high amps into these batteries and how has it gone.

So correct me if I am wrong...
    1. You are using parallel charging board and your charger Node is set to XH/EH in charger menu?
    2. Lets say I would like to charge 4 x 2S lipos using the original P charging board each at 5 amp, I would set the total amp charge at 20Amp?
    Thanks
    Robert

Hey Jim, I'm going into my 3rd year with the PL8 and love it. I also have the PL6 and it's just as good. For lipos, 1s to 2s unbalanced is it. And for the Hyperion taps, will this work? http://www.helifreak.com/showthread.php?t=168074

Here's my setup, I can use both at full power. I have 2 sets of 25v 69amp PS's underneath! Good part, they were only $20 shipped a set.

    1. Yes.
    2. Yes, you set the total amp at 20amp and then specfiy "4P" for the number of packs. You will then see it show you are charging at 5amps per pack for a total of 20amps..

Nice set up Oscar. From the looks of it, this set up has been "field tested" many times!! Thanks for the link on the taps, I may give that a try. The bummer is I orderd 8 tap converters that take it from a 4s to a two 2s tap. When they arrived, I figured out that only one out of eight was wired correctly!! Wasted money and time... Will try and get it sent back and get a refund.

Hey, how do those tap connectors work? Can you just pull it out and push it in to the next slot or is there some sort of tool required??

Push in with a small flathead screwdriver in the open slit where you can see the metal. It should then pull right out. Once out you'll see the little catch on the wire, make sure to bend it back up a little before reinserting.

So I had to test it out myself!
Both, the DPS-1200 power supply, 24 volt, 1800 watts and PL8 v.2 charger.
I also have P charging board from Revolectrix and I tell you this set up ROCKS!!!!
Together with PC software and all the info ON Screen you never have to touch the charger....
So many wicked options and info it is not funny....! Lipos are perfectly balanced!
Love it and this unit, from all chargers I was able to have and use it since I got in to this sickness, this one is THE BEST by fare!!!
Also, I am very pleased to see my work in place. Power supply spins this charger around with no struggle at all. It is like there is no power supply, cant even hear it...
Love the set up and highly recommending the duo with 24 volt DPS-1200.....

    PS
electric, thank you for your business and respond. Now I know why you are happy to have both of them working perfectly together

Love my PL6 it's running on a 47amp 24v supply. I squeezed in a 12v supply as well for accessories.
