Ive seen several sizes of motor used in this boat, anybody have opinions on which one worked out best? Im looking at either the 24-45, 28-35,or 28-45 ammo series. Cant pick one. Please school me.

Chiro,
If you have a boat that is 24"+ you would wanna stick with a 36mm motor, not a 28 or 24mm... they are just too small.
36mm is your standard 05 size can... the second number referres to the motors length (in the Ammo case), it would be like the Short (S), Long(L) or Xlong(XL) from the Feigao motors. More RPM = less torque... and smaller motors have less torque then the bigger ones.
What you have to figure out is a balance between the Kv versus the Torque on your particular hull.
:::::::::::::::. It's NEVER fast enough! .:::::::::::::::
This hull is only 14 inches long.
Yes its fast, yes it will go far away, yes its expensive. No you cant try it.
Its size is the challenge, too much motor and the prop sits still and the boat spins!!!
Yes its fast, yes it will go far away, yes its expensive. No you cant try it.
I use the 28-35-2700 in the one I have
"A quick temper will make a fool of you soon enough."
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .Bruce Lee. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Is there any advantage to the 35mm length motor over the 45mm?? I know its a 1 ounce weight difference, but the 45 makes a lotta watts! Any ideas?

Here's my thoughts... the 35 is basically the same size as stock. Not sure how the 45 would fit. Also, the 45 will need a higher amp speed control.
After a lot of research I went with an Ammo 35-28-3900 and a 2S 1250mah 20C lipo battery. And it's FAST. I don't think I'd want it to be any faster. If you're looking for something fast, practical, and fun, I'd probably go with the 2700KV motor over the 3900. You also need to make sure you can get a battery that can supply the amps needed that will fit in the hull.
There's one on there with the Ammo 28-35-2700 with the 2s Lipo, then the same boat and motor again with a 3s in there. It really seems to move out well with the 2s, but really screams with the 3s like you'd expect. It looks very much in control with either Lipo in it. I especially like the end of the video with the 3s in it. It flips and capsizes!

Guys what ESC should I use if I am looking a 28-35-3900 Ammo motor? Cost effective if possible.
Go to ebay and look up Thunderbird 54... that's a castle creations 54 amp esc that you can get for about $35 + shipping.
If you use a thunderbird do you need the pistix for a pistol radio? Thanks
FE Wanabe
I'm going to say yes, unless someone has a way to get around it without one. I was using a Losi 2.4ghz radio with a Spektrum SR3500 micro receiver and the Thunderbird would not arm. I had bought a Spektrum SR6100 (?) 6-channel receiver to bind to the radio for my E-flite helicopter incase my first ESC would not arm with the pistol radio, so I just used that for now.
