Thread: Prather prop

    Default Prather prop

I broke the stock SV27 propeller. My hobbyshop carries 'Prather' props, which size do I buy to fit a stock SV27 with 2x 4000mah Nimh batteries?

    Thanks

I run 220 with 4S and it runs great a little twitchy on top end.

I'm running the Grimracer 40x52/3. Whilst not quite as fast on the top end as the 2 bladed, it bites better in the water and gives better acceleration starting and coming out of the corners.

I ordered three K-45 composite props from OSE. As a beginner I don't want to start to balance and sharpen metal props and I figure K45's are bolt-on-ready-to-go props for my Sv27.

you'll like the k-45's while top speed is approx the same... you can almost play leapfrog with your sv :)

I USE THE K45 ON A FEW OF MY MONO'S ITS A VERY GOOD PROP JUST MAKE SURE TO CHECK TEMPS REGULAR. DEPENDING ON MOTOR AND RUNNING CONDITIONS THESE ARE THE PROPS I RUN:

    OCTURA: X440, X440/3, AND X640

    GRIMRACER: 40x52/3, 40x53, AND 42x55

    PRATHER: 215 AND 220

    GRAUPNER: K40, K42, K45, AND K48

THE ONLY ONE I HAVE HEATING ISSUES WITH IS THE K48 I USE IT TO DRAG RACE ONLY. I RECENTLY BOUGHT A OCTURA V937/3 HAS ANYONE USED THIS PROP ON A MONO WITH ANY SUCCESS?

    Default prop

I have had good luck with the cf 48 with nimh packs just want to keep an eye on the heat and I think it depends on your driving habits. I seem to lose allittle conering but the extra speed is fun sometimes. I usually run the cf 45 since it's such a safe bet and alot of fun. I just got some lipos so I can't wait to try the x642 I've had waiting in the prop box.

Sweet, looks like the K-45's are approved by you guys :)

I figure these 6$ props are good for me to practice with (and make mistakes) and then I go metal-race prop and LiPo's later... Right now I think this boat is crazy fast and I don't really want more performance until I learn to drive better and get used to the speed.
Beeing new to boats I don't have any spare parts or props so the boat is just sitting in my hobbyroom until OSE sends me the K45's. I ordered three of them so I have a pair in reserve.

    ********
    Whoops!?!
Is the SV27 prop shaft 3/16? The props I ordered are 3/16, but OSE also sell 4mm props

    ********

Translating 3/16inches I get 4.76millimeter and Graupner sell props here in Europe both 4mm and 5mm, can someone straighten this out for me?
(I.e is it the 4mm or the 5mm you in America classify as 3/16 and fit the SV27 stock prop shaft?)

unlike the rest of the boat the propshaft is not metric, you'll be fine with the 3/16" bore props . enjoy.

Thanks, I tried a 3/16 K45 and it fits OK, not snug though.

I keep hammering questions and see if I can wear you out, ok, here goes :)
-The lenght of the prop shaft seem rather short. With the K45 prop bolted on against the drive dog and the drive dog exactly 3mm from the prop strut...there is not much room left on the axle for the lock nut. It works because I drove it like this for 10minutes, but it look scary with not much thread holding the nut.

Am I doing something wrong? (Can't get the drivedog further frward because the drive dog set screw is furthest away possible on the flat spot on the prop shaft.)

...I hope you understand, I'm not English speaking by tongue.

undoubtably as a cost cutting manuver AQ didn't make the shaft any longer than they thought nessessary...so yes some props will not work, while others (like the graupners) are on the margin. I would consider checking the prop nut after each run.
heh did wonder a triffle...your sentence structure does seem (to me) a bit odd in places...not as odd as some Japenese manuals I've seen...:)

I had the same prob. when tring a k48 I simple removed the dog drive. and used a dremil to grind a small flat spot on the shaft to reposition the collar. I also used a little locktite. a little time consuming but worth it. I notice that all the hardware rattle loose over time so im constantly retighting the trim tabs, the rudder. etc. so you have to be careful. I already lost the little set screw the hold the rudder to the shaft.

Oh yes, I'm Swedish, and you'll have to put up with my jibberish if you don't prefer speaking Swedish, LOL :P

Anyways, thanks a bunch for your help, everything is OK now and I had a great run this afternoon. Now I'm recharging the packs and we'll see what trouble I can get the SV27 into tomorrow :)

heheh wondered (after you mentioned the non native language) if you might be from one of the 'germanic/scandinavien' countries ...and now we're asking you to speak rc boating :). fear not, your command of english is far better than my knowledge of sweedish. if needed I might ask you to rephrase something(so that I know what the question is...but then I've had to do that with 'native english' speakers ). good to hear that, you're enjoying the boat!

    Default prop nut

I had the same problem and just flipped the nylock nut over so the locking part of the nut goes on first to make sure it doesn't want to come loose. It's a little hard to get it started but has worked great for me.
