I need a 2.3mm shaft- 4mm flex coupling. To suit leo 2040. Can anyone help? Thanks.

Im confused..... no...wait...mabee im not?
Thats an odd size coupling combination that you will struggle to find, these very sizes have been discused before. Get in touch with Jeff Wohlt on this forum who makes custom set screw type couplings.
Thanks martin, thought i might be in trouble with a flexhex. I can make a brass coupler, thanks for the contact. :-)

Jeff Wholt can make you one

Sure is a big flex for such a little motor i would be worried about the resistance that flex might put on such a small low wattage motor
Thanks alex. Just trying to use a few bits i already had in the shed. Ive never used anything but flex in the past, with octura flexhexes. Mabee id be better off trying a wire drive? (zero experience with them) what sort of coupling do i use for wire? The boats these are going in are my own "micros" built years ago and originaly intended for speed 400 brushed motors. Will be trying some other motors later, with a more conventional shaft size hopefully! Ill keep jeff in mind tho thank you Jim.

You can use either collet type or set screw type with wire drive.
whats the best way to join wire to propshaft? Do i just solder? What size wire would i use? Cheers.

Personally i use Loctite 603 on my wire drives with the hole drill nice & deep into the stub, i dont solder as the wire & hole are small you wont get a good solder joint down in the hole & obviously you cant solder stainless if thats what your using. Most use piano (carbon spring steel)wire for wire drives depending on what your using it in their are .062" & .078" & theirs also 2mm with couplings to suit these sizes.
Will these work??... http://www.ebay.com/itm/JOINT-COUPLE...item27c11f60cf

Thanks for the info Bill. Ive now decided to use a 1/8" strut setup on this boat with a .098 flexshaft. Now need to find a 2.3mm-.098" coupler.... D'OH!!

I personally try & steer clear of set screw type couplings on flexes as the constant undoing & tightening of the screws every time out to clean & regrease destroys the flex pretty quick, escpecially on these small dia flexes.
Yeah i prefer flex hex too. Im in a bit of a pickle with this boat. Think i may do away with the leopard and its problematic 2.3mm shaft.
Martin, can you suggest a few micro motors with a more conventional shaft size?? The boat is a 15" scratchbuilt cat. I already had the 4mm flexshaft and strut, might be better to downgrade to .098 flex & 1/8 strut instead.... Open to all suggestions, as this is my first brushless micro boat. Its been on a shelf for years and i really need to get it wet!!! Thanks.
