Default How does everyone store their boats at home?

I am looking to build an inexpensive stand that will store several boats in a corner of the basement. With my upcoming build I will have seven boats to keep from getting underfoot. Considered a modular pvc stand that can be dismatnled and re-configured depending on which boats I take to the pond on any given day. I saw this on a post on the RCCanada site.

Also considering a wooden stand if I can build one tha would be both functional and versatile.

I made a basic stand for 5 boats to store at home and I have a portable modular stand that holds three boats for the pond (that is all that will fit in my car).

Very much what I had in mind. My two portable stands are built using the same material. Can't believe how expensive those pvc fittings are at the local hardware store though. It seems to me that each of the two stands cost be about 20.00.

Here is my rack. Designed it so it fits perfectly in my Suburban when the rigger is on the top rails. I also bored out the T-Fittings on the rails and secure them with self tapping sheet metal screws so they can adjust if I change boats.

I really like these ideas. Are you guys using 3/4" PVC? Doesn't it want to bend on longer lengths?

I use 1". It's a bit stronger but I move the stand from basement to car, to pond. 3/4" is probably all you need for a fixed stand that is not going to be moved around allot. The 1" even supports my 45 inch gas boat very well.

Nice. My portable stands are made of 3/4" and I wondered how it would hold up over a span of 40 inches.

I pulled the dimensions as far as the length and width are concerned from my boats. 8 inches between the parallel supports for the hull seem to work well for my mono and hydro hulls. Overall length is about 32 inches and I have them at two different heights depending on whether it will sit on a table top at the pond or free standing.

    I missed this thread.
I'm using the walls as I need my floor space.

You've seen my XTerra loaded up
At home it's mostly shelf brackets and pipe insulation for racks and an extra pit table for getting the boats ready on their stands.

But I'm kinda running out of wall space

Whoah!!!! A whole garage designated for hobby stuff. Very nice. I just showed the pic o my bride. She was duly impressed but wasn't too fond of the idea of her car being left homeless in favour of a bunch of toy boats. LOL

My walls are spoken for. I did break down and build a pvc stand this week that is similar to Raydee's. It is modular an each section can be dismantled to allow it to be transported to the pond. It will eventually house 7 boats, 4 monos on the two bottom racks, a kneeler hydro, a JAE21 rigger and eventually an MLboatworks gp335. About 24 inches wide by 36 inches long and about 60 inches high. Will include pics later.

IMG_5870.jpgA little inspiration, a little imagination and a bunch of perspiration and I have a functional and versaitle storage unit with room for six boats now and the capacity for future expansion. Nowhere near a garage full of rc stuff but but it'll do

Thanks guys. Now . . . its back to waiting for my MLboatworks Gp335 kit to arrive! The top shelf will be reserved for that build. . .

I store most of mine under the bed in the spare bedroom, usually have one on "display" in the living room. My stands are all low enough that the fit.
If my boats upside down then who owns the one I thought I was driving the last two laps?

Holy crap nice setup, Are those Sherline lathes? I might have to bug you about your tools, I'm in the advanced lathe course at SAIT right now and looking to buy a lathe and mill in the spring. Have to make some room somewhere :)
If you make a trip to Calgary you have to come check out our pond, its a pretty nice site in a park with a permanent drivers stand and a good launch.
