Hahaha! I'm ahead of you bud! I already sold my SM29. The one on my avatar and trying to sell a couple more boats. Oh crap! I should change my avatar now! My SM29 was Mac's ever first FE boat hull build. I will definitely regret selling it! It was our first project when we got to know each other.

Hey bro looks like an easy fix on the stingers you have... it involves a bunch of filing though (typical). Take off your adjustment rod and grind down the top of the mount
until the stinger is level or just under the sponson. file down the sides of the mount until you can clear the adjustment rod on the top of the mount. Drill a new hole for it and it should fit nicely. Hope it helps.

Thanks Brian,I already picked up a 2.5mm tap and drill bit for that task exactly. Those are bolts in either side on the top part of the arm.So I am off to the drill press.I don't see too much harm in changing that angle. Oh and filing...NOT

But as you can see there is a problem

I'm going to try to buy 4mm from these little guys by moving the arm toward the ball socket/pivot point.

My other option here would be to cut the floor of the hull to gain room and glass it back in.Which also wouldn't be the end of the world but...
I see the problem Shawn. Cutting it and glassing it may do the trick. A lot of work but it can be done. I'll give Mardon a ring and discuss this. Maybe we can adjust the mold and add 5-7mm relief to it so to give the Komodo some versatility when it comes to stinger choices. We can fill the area in the mold so that the next full will have the desired relief. Do you think that the overhung needs some relief too? if so, how much?

It wouldn't hurt Stephen,I was looking at these stingers but that is a bit pricey http://mbp-rc.de/click-drive_1 139 euro is a bit much a piece. But I think the rear mount would work with maybe a round cut out where the pedestal goes thru and a CF sheet adhered inside on the deck floor. This is probably easier to envision with it in front of me.

BTW New holes drilled and tapped.

Shawn, this is nice too for $35 smuckaroons. http://www.ebay.com/itm/108mm-adjust...item20c82a2f40

Plus you can install the base sideways or a bit angled to fit. the problem is, it might be too long at 108mm.

That was a thought that came to me in the night Ray as I just put some on my Geico twin.Still need to be modified to 3/16 from 4mm though.I did successfully accomplish this once(twice I mean) but don't know if I would again with my tools.

So I got an update on the stingers: first i marked them both where I needed to drill

I then center punched and then went to the drill press(located across town)

I then tapped the holes and trimmed the necessary metal to make the arms fit

And trimmed excess metal off giving me my 4mm of clearance.

Now to match some tubing to the mount hole and move to the interior.I have ordered a scale 150mm rudder for this. They claim I will see it in a week so I better get on the CF layup and motor mounts and such.

Change:I don't think I will do a CF layup, this hull is plenty strong.

I'll tell ya,there wasn't much meat left there.I did oversize the hole, put a brass tube in and then a Speedmaster 21 bushing.Works great though.

I did a couple more things to these stingers in the bulletproof area(I do seem to overbuild). There was an issue with getting a stuffing tube to fit into the mounting surface of the stinger. So I put an O-ring inside as there is a little relief area there. This bought me enough to squeeze a 11/32 tube in nicely centered.
Next I decided to put a third screw hole to secure the stinger.

Got the doublers made.I had to make some little pucks so as to make a flush surface for the doublers. This is so that I get good torque transfer for the nuts/bolts of the stingers.

I know I said I wasn't going to CF this one but I am going to do something to even the interior out.I'm thinking yellow tint and a course weave FG cloth. This with CF mounts and such should look OK. Opinions?

In case you guys are wondering why the pics are dark,It is official:The season has changed in Vancouver. The second one is outside.

Hmmmmmm.... I don't know but I still love the looks and the strength of having a CF or CF/Kevlar lay-up. On the outside, maybe you can airbrush budlight scheme or something?

Well it is going to get a Komodo dragon on the deck, haven't figured out how yet.So he should have turqoise, green, gray(red?).So I am thinking bright for the rest of the hull.I'm sure it will come to me,they always do.I'm no "Pro Painter" but they look alright.

Motor mounts are made.I can go with the CC 3434 outrunners,4083 950kv TP inrunners or I have a pair of 1400kv T-600's here.I'll be able to play with it.

Hey Bud keep in mind you need to keep the weight down to go fast.... just sayin
In our club Ray had a set of those T600 1400kv Outrunners in a twin drive setup and they flat out hauled the mail on 6s in a boat that size if I remember right...

    Hey Shawn,

Just to give you an update, The next Komodo will have a higher over-hung to accommodate wider choices of stingers. 1/4" or 6mm has been added to the height but it can still be raised further but we are concerned that if we lift it higher, it might affect the hulls attitude during turns. So, what's your take on this? Is 6mm adjustment enough for the Komodo to accommodate other 3/16 stingers?

    Stephen

Pic below shows total height is now 1 1/2" (38mm) tall. Just click the photo to enlarge.

That should be plenty Tag,a standard 110 stinger would need 32 mm total
    110 stingers.jpg
The way you guys did this should "slim" the rear a bit as well.Is that hull going to Scott?

Thanks Brian,I'll look thru. So far this one is the best if I can have somebody do a outline decal of the dragon so I can airbrush the rest.

komodo-design1.jpg And probably the "KOMODO"under the claws and down the side of the boat.

I need to find a good friendly graphics place I suppose.I think that could be Monday's mission as I have it off.
