Can these be modified to brushless or will the hull not handle it well?
I now have one of these to go along with my Impulse 31. Let just say it is a fun little boat with brushless power. I have a mini e-revo motor and a seaking 35 amp esc in it and I am running 2s (2200 gens ace). With out putting a radar to it, I would guess it runs 20 ish mph. So far, other than the brushless upgrade, I made my own metal motor mount. I thought the plastic one was a little weak for a brushless set up. I think the stock drive system is good and have not had an issue yet (only 4 battery packs so far). The only real issue I had was trying to make everything fit inside the hull, it's quite confined. I may upgrade to a flex cable if I run into a issue, and I may get turn fins if I find more speed. Over all its a great little boat.
My wife and I drove this and my minimono this past weekend. We really didnt race laps because, well thats not what she like to do, so we mostly just had a drag race every now and then. Anyways, the impulse set up like i explained in the above post was just as fast as the stock minimono in a straight line. The impulse would actually be faster if it was a little more adjustable. I purchased some minimono trim tabs/turn fins to see if that will help it out a little bit. The impulse hops a lot when it gets going to fast and it does not like to turn. If the minimono turns on a dime, the impulse turns on monster truck tire. They are both great boats, and i think the impulse would be just as good of a race boat if it was more adjustable and had a better steering servo. In the looks department, I think the impulse wins hands down tho. Cost wise the Minimono wins because has a brussless system stock.
