Default Wich Props for my 41" Zonda/Carbon Cat ? (from Horracing)

    Hi guys ,

someone of you twinbuild speedfreaks know wich size prop i need for my zonda cat?

    Informations about the Boat:

Length: 41" or 1050mm (excludes rudder and strut)
    Width: 11 3/4" or 300mm
Motor: 2 unit x water cooled 2075KV 3674 brush-less in-runner with motor mount (no idea of the name, think is one of the TP)
Esc: 2x Swordfish 200Amps PLUS Esc. (connected them with y plug into channel 2 of the receiver, one esc is without bec cable)
Lipos: 2x 5s (one for each motor) 5000 Mah 40/80C.
Drive system: stainless steel collets, 3/16" flexi cable, brass tube, teflon lining, teflon washers, prop nut, drive dog (installed) Other accessories: antenna mount, water tubings, rudder, stinger drive
    Radio: Spektrum DX2
    Servo: Traxxas 2056 Servo

    Both Esc´s set on:
    LVC: 5 Cells
    Cutoff Voltage/Cell: 2.8V
    Brake Type: no brake
    Timing Adance: middle
    Cutoff Type: hard cutoff
    Startup Type: standart
    PWM Rate: 8 Khz
(optional) Trottle Range: coming if i set the throttle on the radio and receivar with failsave.

because i have no idea what size props are coming with it (getting it in the next 2 weeks i hope) i need some informations or ideas of you what i shoud mount on it for max speed and no overheating problems.
by the way, if i set the ESC´s wrong just tell me, 1st try in twincats :-(
and sorry for my english, coming from Austria, its not the yellow of the egg.

If I had to guess not knowing exactly which motors they are I would say start with 442's,642's and then maybe 445's. I have a Shocker 37" with TP 4082 1820kv's and it likes the 447's and 648's. BTW,most of the props mentioned are from Fightercat.Though I think HOR has them as well.

from small to big, gonna do hehehe, i think the stock props that comign with it are 43mm.

ill start with 442´s, if it runs without overheating i go for the cnc copy of prather s220, and then 445´s, Horracing said the boat runs with my setup about 120km/h, im not sure with that, seeems a little bit much for this low setup, maybe with 3balded props 45mm -.-

Well, you are missing one piece of information that I would like to know............motor brand, motor wind and number of poles. Until then I stand behind my 442's

Are they the stock motors?Unmarked I take it.I agree with M-A-W.Just start with the 442's.That is what I did.And speaking of,if you need any,I have a full compliment from FC.I probably have no need for them so I could sell a few.Just sayin'.

Also bear in mind that a 3 blade will use more amps.

I've been running 70mph and pulling peak amps of 120 per motor.I doubt you will pull more than 80 with 443's.

Twins work together to get the speed. One motor helps the other. They will collectively pull less amps than a single setup.

Another note is that the larger the prop the worse it will turn.FYI

Any chance you have a RTR weight to go with?

Remember he is wanting to run 5s Shawn................I think 442's are on the "big" end for 5s.

Not knowing what the motors are,442's would be the start.Carl is right, those motors could get a little peaky amp wise at 5s.
You could play with the speed calc.It will give you some idea. Not truly accurate but an idea of speed.

Make test with Graupner K42 L+R , K45 L+R , etc.. They are not expensive that will help you to find the right metal prop

    Hi Guys!

i got my Boat, and drivd it Today, IT LOOKS SO AWESOME! but...... its so slow, cant understand that

    Setup:

    2x SSS 36mm 2075 KV Motors 4 Pole
    2x Swordfish 200Amps Plus Esc
    2x 5s Lipo with 50/100 C 4000 Mah
2x Counter Rotating 40mm Cnc Props (without lift)

how i said i drived it today, and had think i get around 00-120 km/h out of it, and what i get is not cool, only 55 km/h best drive :-( my spartan is faster hehe

what i can do? i did something wrong?

the props are running to the middle/inside, is that ok? or i must change them to the outside?
The motors and ESC dont get hot, after 2 Minutes 80-90% Throttle they stay very very cool, maybe a bigger prop? like 43-49?
    Zonda 41" Carbon Cat, Motors: 2x 2075KV 3674 Brushless Inrunner, ESC: 2x 200Ish plus, Props: 2x 42mm, 2x 5s 5000Mah 50/100c

Inside or outside depends on how it handles.Which changes with speed. I'm going to say that 40mm props are tiny on that hull.Jump up to some 45mm and go bigger as temps check out.

If you want help, get some video of your boat and post it. You could have something way off with the setup, or it's just the (too small) props not getting the boat out of the water.

Use the OSH speed calculator to estimate top-speed capacity for a motor, volts, prop dia/pitch, http://www.offshoreelectrics.com/conversion.htm.

My ZondaCat came with Aluminum, 442 (42 mm, 1.4 pitch) props (I balanced and sharpened) and running on 4S 30C batteries, on choppy, rough water, the GPS registered the top-speed of 42mph. Motors are stock, 3674 2075kv and I'm using, 120A ESCs. 42 mph is about what the OSH speed calculator projects. According to the OSH speed calculator, with these motors:

    50 mph: 4S batteries, 45 mm props, 1.6 pitch or 5S batteries, 42 mm props, 1.4 pitch.
Greater than 50 mph will require bigger motors.

    Hi Mecka,

Did you figure a good set up for your Zonda. Im running my Apparition on 2x5S lipos, T180amp ESc and 2560kv 4060 motors with M447 props, speed is over 80mph.
The first stock setup on my cat was really slow, barley made 60mph, after adjusting and changing you will have your Cat fly like mine.

The motors are 4 Pole SSS HOR/TP Power. They are a D wind and lower timing may be a better start.

Try sharpening your props. CNC props still need to be sharpened.

did u look at the data log on ur boat ur escs make sure u r getting 100% throttle, i have the same esc and used a different radio than normal and on my last run it read only 95%
i know u only said u were going 80-90% throttle get it back on the water and give it full throttle just to see if the escs r giving u 100%

yes they give me 100% throttle, thats the problem, the hull takes 3 seconds to go out of the water and get some speed, that seems to be a problem with the esc settings and props, he need more power to go out, if he gets out it looks like jesus walk over the water, very well without any influence on the speed, but still to slow, last gps 34 km/h, thats definetly to slow, i wanted to go for 60 mp/h with this setup, thats what hor said.

edit: just figured out that the esc´s dont give 100%, 100% = the led is solid green, mine is flashing...

maybe change the settings of the esc to timing auto and fast startup and 16 kh/z and try? if the motor get hot i get it back to shore instantly

    edit:

    esc´s was setted up ok

lvc 5s, startup type: standart, khz: 8, timing: auto

my spektrum dx20 makes the problem, cant get 100% throttle, the esc is not solid green when i give full throttle, setted it already up to 125% throttle but it doesnt helps, setted the esc´s about 20 times new, still same problem, contacted hifei via skype and get the new firmware for the 200 plus version. must test tommorow when im alone at home to get 100% throttle, the boat is to load at home, the neighbor dont likes me any more :p
