I don't have the one you linked to, but I have a couple of the 4082 2180kv motors in a hydro & a mono & they out perform the same size Leopards I've tried in the same boats any day. More efficient, more power & less heat with the same prop, battery & laps.
Just my thoughts & observations.
See the danger. THEN DO IT ANYWAY!!!

TP Power are great! They deserve way more recognition than they get.
25" Arrowana with Etti 2970 3300kV. RCMK Flying Cat with twin HOR Outboards. 2 x SSS 4092 2140kV. Faluga 45" with Leo 56110 620 kv on 12s.
Steven Vaccaro tested a TP 4092 1800kv & Leopard 4092 1730kv both on 6s in a 36" DF cat hull both on x450 prop, the TP ran 60mph & the Leopard 67mph. He said the Leopard had so much torque that he had a use i believe 10,000 mah batteries over the 5000mah he had previously used to get more weight in the boat & still ran 65mph with the Leopard.
Sounds like one was a deta wind and one was a Y wind???
The specs ive seen on both motors they are both D winds.
Leopard 3D no load current 4.5a.
TP 6D 2.5a.
I just picked up a used 4084 2200 KV.
It wont be a fair comparison though because my Leopard if a 4074 2200 KV.
Initial thoughts- WAY stronger magnets. This thing cogs like a hog!

incease in cogging is no indication of a more powerfull motor.
Increase in magnet strength is an indication of more torque.
I could have both rotors Gaussed...

There was obviously a variable that had not been accounted for. If he used 10,000mah for one and 5,000mah for the other, that could be the difference.
I have tested a number of Leopard and TP motors and I have not experienced this phenomenon. That test is not a fair representation/comparison of motors.
He tested them both with 5000mah & got 60mph & 67mph, he then fitted 10,000mah with the Leopard to increase weight to help with the torque problem & still got 65mph.
So it went slower on 2p?
I think he needs to re-test. I suspect that 67mph reading was innaccurate.
I believe he used 2 3s 5000mah in series for the 60mph & 67mph runs.
Ive just looked at the thread that Steven originally posted & the 65mph with the Leopard motor with a the increase in weight to stabalize the boat was in fact with 2 6s 5400mah in parallel, But said the boat didnt handle well with the increase in weight.
Odd that it went slower with 2p...
I think that something is being missed here, or a faulty reading was experienced. I think Steve is an honest guy and I don't question his integrity, but I have tested numerous TP and Leopard motors and I have not had a similar outcome. The biggest difference I have noticed is that the TP motors run cooler because of the vented endbells.
So is this the reason Steve doesn't sell TP? If so maybe further testing is not a bad idea?
Hi,
Do you have experience with the TP Power Pro Comp 4060 1600kv 4200W machine?
That TP Power Pro Comp 4060 1600kv the machine I'm going to put a 32 inch pursuit boat.
Pursuit boat.

If you get your Leopard motors from OSE they are all vented end caps ( boat version ). This is the info i was given by Leopard motors factory technical dept that the 40 series motors are not all the same inside, the boat version has more magnets that produces more torque than the solid end cap motors which are car & or aero motors. All the other series Leopard motors 28,36 & 56 are all the same motor inside as theirs not a specific boat version other than they come with either solid caps or vented for use in boats.
Magnet strength is not the same as cogging. Several years ago Neu changed the way they put their motors together. I had two 1521/1.5D motors (same magnets), one had significantly more cogging yet both performed the same. Cogging is just not a reliable way to predict motor performance.Increase in magnet strength is an indication of more torque.

I have used that motor. It is a D wind and performs well with timing 1-5 degrees. I think TP over-rates them at 4200W in comparison to other manufacturers, but they have performed well for me, and that should be more than enough motor for a 32" mono.
I assume you're running 5s or 6s lipo?
Anyone have a TP Power apart?
I just had to pull mine apart to add heat shrink. Ive had a Leopard/Tacon apart before for comparison:

let me tell you this. The TP Power motor looks likes its made 10x better...

Note the laminates on the stack. Those appear to be in-line ground Vs. the leopard where they stamped laminates are just assembled. I would be willing to bet the air gap is less on these motors also.

hi Guys
I think there are so many factors that come into play - along with motor selection
batt's, props, setup ,etc etc
its hard to say the TP motors are no good -
I remember when the leopards came out and many said they were no good
time will tell- the TP motors seem to be out peforming the leopards
Seems some guys are getting good results with the 4092's
anyways just an observation
happy boating
Scott
Thanks Basstronics for taking one apart and posting pics. I have run my 4092/2200 which I believe by TP's motor chart is the actually a 2100? Anyway I have run this motor and two others a Leopard 4082/2200kv and Neu 1515 1Y 2200kv on two different setups. On my DF33 which the Neu powers very well over the Leopard I thought the TP was a bit quicker but didn't get a lap time or GPS reading. Yesterday we ran my Shaman tunnel with the TP and the Nue back to back with only a timming change for the D vs Y. Low on the TP and medium on the Nue with a SF200. The P tunnel in heat race trim with a m445 prop GPS'd at 52 mph. The TP 4092 then pulled 55mph with only the timming reprogam. Backed up what I felt on the DF mono that the TP had an edge. Make me wonder if uprading the TP to a ceramic hybrid bearing on just a quality bearing like the Neu would give me anything. The Neu's just have that sound of precision. Bear in my these are just my obsevations from limited testing on two different hulls. In the mono the TP came in about 10 degrees warmer motor and esc and we didn't make a full 2 minute run with the tunnel to compare.

I had to replace bearings and clean out my HOR version 1200KV 5694. It went through an Lipo fire and survived.
I noticed too that the rotors are on par with Castle motors I've gutted. Where Leo's are kinda nasty lookin' . This is all just opinion though.
There is rumor I've heard it was TP Power that taught Leo how to make motors as such.

I run a 4092 TP 2200kv in my DF33 and I like it better than my old 1521 1.5D Neu. I turn a smaller prop and it handles btter even though it has more work to stop it hopping out of the water at end of straights.
Runs as cool as the Neu and almost the same size prop.... getting there.
Run on SF200, Turnigy 5800-25c 4s2p, abc 4555 stock, S/B.

I don't understand why OSE doesn't carry these if they are this good?
.NAMBA20...Caterpillar UL-1, P-Spec OM29, P-Mono DF33, P-Spec JAE, Aussie 33" Hydro-LSH, Sprintcat CC2028 on 8s, PT SS45 Q Hydro, PS295 UL-1 power, OSE Brothers Outlaw QMono 4-sale, Rio 51z CC2028 on 8s
67mph was on the low side. I'm running over 70mph with that setup now.
But that doesn't mean the black motors wont ever be on the OSE site.
