    Default 1/6 Scale Drag Boats

I still build 1/10 TFH and Runner bottoms for real drag racers to run when they are relaxing. There has been a loss of the Parma 1/10 motors and I have been wanting to build a bigger boats but did not want to go to 1/5 or 1/8 scale too expensive for the electrics. So I found a dummy motor in 1/6 scale that there is a good supply http://www.google.com/products/catal...ed=0CGIQ8wIwAw

I am starting to build a plug for the FTH and Runner bottoms in 1/6 scale. The TFH boat will be 38 inches long and 14 inche wide. The Runner Bottom will be 35.8 inches long 10.83 wide at the transom.

    This is my start.

How heavy is the motor ... I wonder how it would look in my 51" shovel?

According to one seller it weighs 3.55 pounds - the block is die cast metal after all. That's more than most large FE motors.....maybe it's just a display accessory.

The one I bought most all of it is plastic just the center block is metal, much lighter.

Like I said it is 1/6 scale. I have the template for the runner bottom started and at the same point as the TFH.

Well plans have changed on the boat I am going to do Problem Child. Most of the time I do not show the building of a Plug to make a mold. But in a post a few weeks ago some one asked how to do it. So hear is the one and only time I am going to show it. You need to have some imagination at this point of the progress to see the finished model. I will post a picture of the top half with out the sponsons and bottom. It is still a little rough. So bear with me.

Has anyone made realistic exhaust headers asked on these 1/6 motors?

Well Randy, Now that you're building one of these and I've gotten no response from David @ Hyperformance. How long do you think it will be before you get the mold done and start popping boats out? I'd rather buy from you anyway..

If I can keep on it like 3 hours a day M threw F I would say two to three months to make the first boat. Orders and like today the doctor gets in the way. But I am on the down hill side of the P Sport boat and I really want to get this one done.

I have decided to do this boat as a shoe box style molding at least in the front, to do butt joints are much weaker in the narrow hard to get to places. What do you guys think?

Thanks guys any one else wants one please post and I will have more incentive to finish. Although on a lighter side when I first read the two of you wanting the 1/6 Problem Child Hydro (PCH/TFH) I thought of the Warren Zevon recording "Send lawyers guns and money!"
I am going to cut a little on the bottom mold today but I really need to get back to the three or four other boats waiting to be done that are production work.

I had time in the doctors office to think about the build, just a yearly Physical. I decided to build a lower butt seam and make a inner mold to do the shoe box I will end up with the best of both worlds. pictured is the bottom back portion of the new mold.

I have decided to make the block part of the deck/hatch so that when I sell the hull you will be able to build the dummy motor as part of the deck. Also I am in the process of making molds for the 1/10 scale hemi as we speak. I do not know what I will do today on the buck but I will bring home pictures of what I do today tonight and post them. Hope you guys are enjoying the mold build blow by blow.
