    Default Hydro and Marine Lobster

Well I went and order myself a Hydro & Marine Lobster boat on May 30 and after checking the tracking info today, I am very excited as it has arrived in Aus and is on it's way to the local dispatch facility should have it by the weeks end if not sooner
This hull is a custom build using a combination of light weight fiberglass and Kevlar and according to Oliver came in under 1000 grams, not bad I guess for a 31" hull.
I'm planning to run this in 2 of our 4s classes, 1st being restricted rigger, 45amp ESC + Proboat 1500 motor, hence the reason for light weight glass. Hoping it's not going to be to heavy for this setup and is competitive against the other racers.
2nd class is open rigger, so any motor and ESC on 4s. Not sure what I'll use yet! I have a Feigao 8xl on the self i may use till i decide on a more permanent motor.

Will post pics when it arrives

    Nice one Heath.
I might have a spare TP Power 4050 2180kv motor c/w cooler & 5.5mm bullets you can try. It's the one I run in the 4s cat. I'm trying something different this weekend.
If it works out, I'll be selling the TP motor. Only used lightly on Sundays.
    Cheers.

I know what your "only lightly used on Sundays" means lol
I'll see how it goes, need to test it with restricted setup first.

ive always thought that hull looks nice.

I love the Winston Eagle hydro, specifically without the rear shoes.

if I had your hull, id make a new cowling with a cut out for a windshield and room for a dummy turbine pipe.

not really related, but this is Phil Thomas lobster hull

Ok so temptation got the better of me and i did a little work on the hull.
I added locating pins to the hatch to help hold it in place while taping. Epoxied in M3 stainless screws, 2 @ the back and 1 @ the front.

The build is going slower than I would like. The strut I ordered was to small in height and length and the rudder way big lol so have had to re-order. I have also decided to use 2 part foam in the sponsons for flotation and manufacturer recommends temps of 25C min, so will have to wait a week or 2 for the temps to rise. I'm a tad nervous about this as i'm not sure how i'm going to get it in them. Thinking of drilling a hole in the back of the sponsons and pouring in through a funnel in stages as to not over do it.

Package arrived Friday with the replacement strut and rudder plus some BLING parts for the boat
Started by adding a 2mm CF transom plate JB welded in. Once that had set i installed strut and rudder, drilled out the servo rod and inserted a 7mm brass tube then slipped the bellow over it. Added the first of the bling parts, Water inlet. Put together the bling servo mount and installed a waterproof high torque Savox digital servo into it. Permanent fixing of the servo will come once I have the motor mount and stuffing box installed.

Also I installed the turn fin. Wasn't quite sure exactly where to place it so just guesstimated. If someone thinks it should be in a different position please say.

Make certain the turn fin is perpendicular to the running surface.

Made up a battery tray out of 2mm carbon sheet. Did a dry mock up to work out positioning of internals then JB welded the battery tray in.

Got time to do some more work on the boat this week.
Jb welded the motor mount and stuffing tube in place.I have no adjustment in the motor mount do to the tight width of the boat, so extra care had to be taken to make so the motor was in the best position it could be.

Well the lobster is all finished and ready for testing We have had some warm weather here so I managed to get the 2 part foam flotation into the sponsons. I did this by drilling a hole at the end of each one, inserting a small funnel, then pouring in the mixture. I filled the holes with builders bog after a few days of curing. Both sponsons are about 3/4 full of foam now.
I may enter into this Sundays racing for its first run :) Fitted out with a Feigao 8xl for the time being.

Well having time over this Christmas has given me the chance to completely finish off the lobster. The paint scheme is not exactly true to the original, but is good enough for :)
