Debating on making the switch. Main thing will be run time.I run about 6-7 mins on IB 4200 6cells. How long is the run time on lipos. Just trying to justify spending the money to upgrade to lipo vs getting two more sets of nimh.

You will see an increase in run time, but the main increase you will see is performance. Faster to get on plane, higher top speed.

In both boats and my cars the difference is amazing. They do have slightly higher voltage but that isn't the whole deal. The power just pours out of them and it doesn't flatten out like a nimh. I used to get frustrated with my cars getting 6 minutes of run time and half of that seemed to be at 3/4 throttle!
Everything is great except the cost---remember you need a charger (and some sort of lipo cutoff is advised)
so how long are the lipo run times on average? Power output I am not worried about I just mess around with it. No races really where I am in New port Richey FL.
I have run my Neu 5000 packs for 10 minutes in the SV. No problems. I have not run longer than that because I dont have a low voltage cut off. I think you could go more but by then the temps are getting up on the motor anyway.
mate its like this do you want to go faster, longer then jump in the deep end and buy, buy, buy. the money you will outlay will be worth it.go for the higher mah range . you will never go back.

If you like to run fast, LiPos will usually have less run time than NiMH cells of the same capacity. Where you can gain run time is by buying cells with higher capacity than the NiMH cells you now use, or by paralleling twin packs. If you purchase two 4S packs with 5000 mAh capacity each and run them as 4S2P, you will have about double the run time you have now. But, the cost will be substantially higher than just buying another NiMH pack and switching them out. It is up to you and your wallet.
.
Just got a set of true rc 2s2p let see how these are.
How much did you spend on them and where where they purchased ??? I would like to do the same, Will be following this post to see the results.
What kind of charger are you using ???
To any one who knows:
I have the great lakes quad charger, Great charger but it only goes to 3000 mha would this not be good for higher mha ???
I will keep everyone posted 20c rated for 96amps (they say). After checking the specs on the Nimh IB4200's The true rc put out more and drain faster by spec on paper but will shall see.
Trouble is, I do not have a lipo cut off kind off worries me.
It'll slow down a noticeable amount so you'd know if they are dying, when they start to drop off bring it in. Time your run as well so you know how long you can run them on a timer. Not the safest method but it'll work. On paper they'll drain faster but not in reality, they'll outlast nickel cells regardless even if they're the same amp rating. I know for a fact my polyrc 3300's outlast most ib4200 cells, nickle dumps quick under a load where as lipo's will hold up. I can get almost 10 minutes of run time with my 8000's in a buggy near 90 amps constant current.

Ok I tried them and thought they were great!! they are True R/C 6400mah 7.4V 96amp continuous/ 128 amp burst. 15c/20c
