    Default Cheap GPS speedometer

HK, if you're listening we need a small, lightweight, inexpensive (under $30) GPS speedometer with a screen just large enough to display the maximum speed of the last run. Would be nice to be able to USB connect to computer to show 'map' of route and other details of run(s). Replaceable aaa batteries instead of 'built-in lithium' (which will eventually go bad rendering it useless). We need this yesterday!

I think this is going to be as good as it gets:

I have used a club members Voltron GPS which I believe the HK verison is a knock off of and I really like it. Plug it into the reciever and thats it. It will even fit inside the radio box of my gas boat.

You could also look for an old Garmin Forerunner 101 in ebay.

Have you seen a Voltron in real life? its less than 1/4 the size and weight of that unit although it looks really cool for larger boats..

I have a cheap motorola so no huge loss if it goes for me, yeah it does add a little weight which in my HK Centurion is a noticeable issue Id say, but have nothing to benchmark it against to test accuracy. I dont think the little weight phases my genesis speed wise, not noticeably by eye anyhow.
Any of you guys bothered with the hotwheels radar gun, they go cheap on ebay and read up to 160kmh I think, which would be no good for some of you guys, but for most of us (well, me, anyway) 100mph is a long way off :D
Great thread though, thanks for the info on the GPS units

I've tested the sky gps. they are junk as far as I'm concerned. they are always giving different readings. They can't compare to a garmin.

I have a voltron 2nd design with a tiny lipo that I used most of the summer, you can also plug it into the receiver. I got mine from
Jeffrey.daft@herzogracing.com. He is an RC boater and racer on the gas side and is great to deal with, he usually has them in stock.

I just picked a garmin forerunner 201 used for 10$ but I havnt tried it yet. Also what looks to be a good option is the quantum gps data logger V2. It's only 50 bucks at hobby king. Although if OSE had them I would much rather spend my money here.
