    Question receiver antennas

does anyone know if running the recv`r ant.up through a plastic tube affects the radio sensitivity??is it better to just wind it around the length of the tube|??

what kind of radio system are you using, I think witht the am and fm the most wire out the better and leave it in the tube. on 2.4s some are fine in the boat and others need to be outside the hull.

The only part you need to worry about is the exposed wire length or "tuned" length, thats the section taking in your signals. The rest is just feed to get the exposed part as high as possible or for you to extend it somewhere, preferably straight up and down. Wrapping it in a pigtail around the plastic tube or whatever you use does nothing for any extra gain.

as long as your exposed piece is oriented as per the manufacturers directions and it has a 360 deg dome of unobstructed input your fine, the extra feed length (covered wire) does nothing for sensitivity or extra range.

Some of the newer radios have antennae receiver wires built into some nice looking arials., a bit big for some rigs.

Also note that for 2.4GHz, the only "working"part of the antenna is the last inch or so on the tip. Modifying any part of that will severly degrade it. Carbon fiber will block 2.4GHz, and so does H2O, so you want to run these as high as possible outside the hull (esp if hull is CF).
