Don't know much myself but more info is definitely needed .....motor size(kv),type of esc, type of batteries, prop size, type of hull and hull length?
Everything I do I learn something new!

Just the opposite. More prop equals more amps equal more heat. Other things that heat up an esc are running a lot at partial throttle or short runs like in a small pond.

its a skywing sw150a esc, 4s 20c 4000mah lipos, 40" genesis, no clue what the prop size is or what the motor is, here is a pic of each if it helps any. theres plenty of water coming out of the side of the boat so i know its getting plenty of flow.

Have any pictures of the insides of the cat set up and wires ?
And take the prop off and look for numbers and check that the flex shaft is free.

ok prop is a 435, the shaft may have had a bit of a bind in it so i loosened the motor and gave it more of a strait on shot and greased the shaft.

The shaft should turn with two fingers smoothly in open coupler on motor.
That is a small prop for that boat,
Need to see wire connector, No pictures yet ?
If that is a stock motor, I think they pull high amps and are not very good.

I do not like the deans and to much different wire sizing going on to.
Go with 5.5 bullets all the way.
The esc is getting hot when running the boat in the water for how long and how hot.

You also need to have a 3/16 gap for your flex shaft from the back of the strut to the prop dog.
And take the wight washer off, You do not need it.

180? It still works? I'd hesitate to say your ESC is faulty. You haven't sucked enough juice to melt solder yet have you?

yes it still works, and it is that hot cause i cant hold my finger on it or any amount of time, i measure it where the tip of the screwdriver is.

You should be having other heat issues if you are over drawing power. You can heat up motors with wrong gearing,I know this from my cars but then things are easy on the controllers. So that kinda takes away the small prop heating things up.

Is it that particular block part that you are pointing at that gets hot?

well i check it all around it and it varies about 10 degrees but its still supper hot, its done it since it was new, the motor and batteries stay super cool, highest ive seen on the batts is 92 and 99 on the motor but that esc gets smokin hot. but it still works every time, i dont get it either. im guessing the esc heating up is what makes me loose power so fast but i still cant figure out why its gettin so hot.

You may want to cut that shrink warp off and take a look to see what up.
My 120a swordfish was getting hot like that so time back and than I added some caps to it,
And the temps went down a lot.
