If you want to build huge you need the funds. If you're trying to do it cheap you're wasting your time. What happened to " I have too many boats"?..,., slow down and think about what you're doing and money wise, what you're able to afford reasonably. Jmo

There's a start... Plus you could always sell your other boats for cash to fund something like this.

The hull make a wake posted is actually about 46", but it's definitely a good sized hull and will take some serious power to get some speed out of it. It does take work to convert... you will need to treat it as a bare hull and install hardware yourself, and plug up all the holes and vents that are in the boat (it's set up for gas).
Fightercatracing has a 60" cat, but I think they are out of stock at the moment. I think OSE has a 50" cat but I'm not sure about stock there either. These are bare hulls that you will need to build. If you're looking for a bare hull for under $800, it can be done. If you're looking for a built boat for $800 you aren't going to end up with much.

    EDIT:
If you are interested in something a bit smaller, you could go with the 41" in my avatar. It's a sizable difference in comparison to a 50" hull though.

I dont think I would call that "full hardware", that's a bit mis-leading. The only thing worth using on that boat is the rudder. The strut will work if you custom machine and re-thread the shaft to accept regular props, but from the factory it's an odd-ball size. Add to that the fact that it's missing trim tabs, turn fins, motor mount, ect. and you can pretty much consider it a bare hull. In think I would actually prefer a bare hull to this one, since it has so many holes/vents to deal with, but the price is nice. I think I paid closer to $300 for mine...I don't really remember though.

Here's a pic of the transom of that boat if it were ready to run at a decent speed:

A member in our club has the eagle boat. It wouldnt handle the 2028 he had in it. There was probably still some tweaking left to do but he gave up. I agree. it takes big money to build a big boat. There are no real shortcuts. Budget and big boat dont go together. $800. will cover a good motor, decent esc and less expensive batteries.

    Yes!
Big boats not only cost big bucks, but get ready to go through 4 boats worth of lipos in 3-4 minutes with a 50" boat. It's definitely not the most cost effective way to do FE boating...

As far as the Eagle boat, I'm surprised it didn't do well with the 2028. Maybe he just gave up too quickly? I ran a 5692 in mine and I felt like it could have used a bit more motor and lower kv/bigger prop. I ran a x457 on it and it was defintely on the small side, this was the first run:

    Thanks!
That build was about as "budget" as it gets for a boat that will move at a decent speed, and it was still not cheap. You still get close to 1k, even with budget builds (building it yourself).

Watching that video reminds me that it was my 5 year old girl behind the camera.lol. Such a good little helper! Now my 2 year old girl constantly asks to help building boats and want's her own "baby boat" to build.lol

Yeah I sold it. It was a little big to haul and I hated running down $1k worth of lipos in a few minutes...History seems to be of no consequence to me though, as just today I was pondering building a 60" cat with twin 5698s.

I ordered a 54 inch mono from mmp it is called e Watersnake and then there is the Titus witch is a step down at 49 inches the quality of these hulls are extremely nice but if you r looking to save money I would not go nowhere near the 50 inch range whatever you build is not going to be cheap if you want a pretty fast reliable setup

If you're willing to come pick it up I have a 54" Arapaho that runs "scale" already built complete with a Leopard 5692 1000 kv, Turnigy 180 Marine esc. On 6s 2p it runs I'd guess in the mid 40's. $550.00 with LPU and it's yours. Or I'd sell you the hull & harware minus the motor & esc for $350.00

There are vents in front of the hatch, on the rear of the hatch, and a hole in the side of the hull for the exhaust. Nothing that's super difficult to deal with though.

yeah the ones in the hatch should be very easy to get around... just the one on the side of the hull could be a slight challenge

That's the easiest one. It's a clean hole with a metal ring to attach the exhaust. I just filled the ring with epoxy after taping it off and called it a day. It was a pretty simple fix if you don't mind a dummy ring being there.
